just bought .50 cva optima pro and need advice

I just bought a .50 cva optima pro and I plan on buying some powerbelt bullets. I wanted to get the hollow points but didn't know whether to get the 245 gr. or 295 gr. I plan on using this gun for deer hunting only. thanks

Since you just got the rifle, I would suggest getting both weights. You will not know which of them it will shoot the best until you try them. The main thing is keep the powder charges low, around 100 grains. I found that if you push them too hard, the accuracy is no good.

In posts I've read concerning your gun, it's the 348 followed by the 295s that shoot best. The leaded ones fragment & explode when hitting bone - making a mess & destroying meat. The best performing Powerbelt in my opinion is the hollow-point coppers. Best prices are at midsouthshooterssupply.com.

I shoot the 245 grain powerbelts in my optima. It seems to do very well with them and 100 grains of powder. A word of caution about the hollow points. I shot them first before trying the aerotips. And, dug one of them out of the dirt bank at 100 yards and could have put another base on the bullet and fired it again! It had no noticable expansion not a scratch on it. That is why I shoot the aerotips.

I took one out of a doe , not dirt , and it was bigger than a quarter. She dropped where she stood. The plastic is too unreliable for me

I'm getting 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards shooting 90 grains Pyrodex and 245 gr copper HP Powerbelts.
I could post a picture of the target if I could figure out how.
