RE: NEW muzzleloader....blued or stainless more accurate??
I've never heard that before. I always assumed that people bought them because they looked better and were easier to clean.

I have a CVA Mossy oak stock stainless optima pro 209 great gun! there are more costly guns out there but you will be vary
happy with cva ( and no I have never herd that stainless shoots better than blue) |
RE: NEW muzzleloader....blued or stainless more accurate??
I do not think stainless steel barrels are anymore accurate then say a blue steel barrel, but I think they are easier to clean. They show the dirt better and therfore easier to clean off. They might also be a little more forgiving if they are not cleaned right away, but do not kid yourself, they will stain and rust like any other steel.

RE: NEW muzzleloader....blued or stainless more accurate??
Personally wouldn't buy a inline that isn't SS, they are easier to clean and SS is more forgiving than a blue barrel in regards to weather. Accuracy is not part of the equation it is strictly durabilty & care related. For me asthetics aslo play a part in it, I really like the SS look!

================================================== === NWIndiana You must have the "One & Only" Optima SS because all the other non-blued are Nickel Finish. |
RE: NEW muzzleloader....blued or stainless more accurate??
I saw that deal for the Omega, but my personal opinion is to spend a little more and get an Omega with the stainless steel and laminated stock. It seems that the synthetic stock Omegas are front heavy and the laminated stock is more level.I paid $409 for mine last spring. With my Leupold scope,I can hit a 2 inch circle at 100 yards. It is very easy to clean and see if you miss anything inside the barrel.Mine looks like it has never been fired it is so clean.

mdrbowler
Three 3/8" bolts with Great Stuff poly spray in a can found at most hardwares takes care of the front-heavy synthetic stock..... quiets the stock too while walking thru thickets.... all for approximently $8. |

Which are faster, red cars or black cars? Just like your profile, your post indicates your body & mind are in two different places. |

RE: NEW muzzleloader....blued or stainless more accurate??
stainless isnt anymore accurate but it is easier to clean and if your hunting in harsh and foul rainy weather this is the gun of choice for most people.

RE: NEW muzzleloader....blued or stainless more accurate??
I do not believe a SS barrel is more accurate but it is easier to clean. Some gun manufacturers have the SS barrel too shiney in my opinion, but my SS Encore has a matte finish on it which has dulled since buying it. But all in all the SS is easier to clean, no worry for corrosion, and it sortof looks better if that matters.

RE: NEW muzzleloader....blued or stainless more accurate??
Probably the oldest BP store in Ohio gave me this advise,Blued barrel, black stock.I did not follow his advise, but then when have I followed anyones advise?

RE: NEW muzzleloader....blued or stainless more accurate??
enough with the german I cant read that stuff LOL :D:D well I dont know if there is a difference in accuracy between a SS or a blued gun. But the molecular structure of stainless steel is weaker but more rigid then the steel used in blued guns. So maybe a stainless steel gun could be more accurate since the steel is stiffer.

RE: NEW muzzleloader....blued or stainless more accurate??
I've never heard of SS being more accurate that Blued.
On the other hand, chrome barrel lining is used as an accurizing technique. |

RE: NEW muzzleloader....blued or stainless more accurate??
I'm not certain I am right on this but my Kodiak w/nickle barrel weighs about a pound less than it's sister gun,a Win. SS Apex. Now if that's true the non SS gun weighs 15% less. That would make me want one, just the lightness is a plus.If your gonna clean your gun it'll be clean and won't rust if it's blued.
all the best, lizzzard |
RE: NEW muzzleloader....blued or stainless more accurate??
Thanks for the correction jcb9901, chroming is typically used for enhanced corrosion resistance.
