RE: Nosler bullets
Full bore-size pure lead bullets like the Great Plains are very effective. But I have found that the Black Belt (CVA PowerBelt) bullets are just as effective, grain-for-grain, as any other conical, and are a lot easier to load due to being made around .001" undersize. They can be started in most barrels with just thumb-pressure, and they slide down and seat on the powder without deformation. They therefore stay "pristine", contributing to accuracy. The plastic gas-check keeps them from moving off thge powder charge before they are fired, and helps reduce gas blow-by. Try them!!

I shot a large whitetail two years ago with a 303gr Remington Core-Lokt. Complete pass through with little expansion. I would imagine this would make a fine bear bullet.

RE: Nosler bullets
edeguello has hit on a good combination.
I almost was able to book a bear hunt for this year and what I was going to use was either the Hornady 385 Great Plains or the Precision 400gr Extreme HP (since I already have a good supply of them) for my first shot and any follow-up shots were going to be with the Black Belt 405gr Precision tips because they are the easiest to load - especially when you're in a hurry. I picked up a loader this week end at a sportsmans show called the BBS in-line loader . I went out and resighted in my gun with great plains bullets and it worked great .It keeps bullet square and does not deform bullet tip .It also works as a speed loader for a second shot .Check it out at www.smokepole.qpg.com . Also the bullets grouped very well . Thanks deercutter |

Thanks for the link, deercutter!
That looks like a nifty little toy - something else to stuff into my black powder ammo cans. :) "Every moving thing that liveth, I give unto you as meat" (Gen 9:3) Trust God..........but keep your powder dry! |
