Knight DISC Elite question
Hi All,
Just bought this rifle and would like to know what loads you use and what results you get. Thanks |
RE: Knight DISC Elite question
If its a .50 cal and for deer size game, then try what I use: 2 50gr. pellets of pyodex, and a 250gr. Barnes Expander in Knight sabot. This combo is perfect for me, never had a deer run more then 20yds.

RE: Knight DISC Elite question
Try the Winchester Platinum tip and 100 gr of 777. I shoot them out of my Disc Extreme and they shoot pretty well. They're about half the price of Barnes bullets if cost is an issue.

RE: Knight DISC Elite question
Got the same rifle. I shoot 3-777 pellets (150gr equiv pyro), and 250gr barnes with well over 2000fps. I get sub2MOA performance very very consistently. Also shoot 240gr XTP (green sabot) and 95gr of Pyrodex (works great) around 1550fps. I have tried 3-777 pellets and 240gr XTP Mag (black sabot) but you have to use a MMP Mag Subbase to get good performance.
I have a question. I had a huge gap between my forarm and barrel. So much you could squeeze the front of the barrel and the reciever would come up. I had it bedded and glass'd. Wonder if yours is the same. I shot a doe last week with the barnes load, and all I can say is wow, devastating damage when shot thru the lungs and heart. More trauma than I ever seen with any other muzzleloader load. I worked long and hard to find an accurate load with >130gr of powder. And it wasn't easy. So don't expect them to work great for you. Just give it a try. |

RE: Knight DISC Elite question
Wow, sounds like all these elites are bedded like this. I thought it was a flaw. I was expecting it to be bedded like a regular disc. I had that gap taken out.

RE: Knight DISC Elite question
Do you think they took an Extreme stock and redid only the lug area? Left the barrel channel the same, therefore the taper of the ELite causes the gap?
|
RE: Knight DISC Elite question
Look, I don't think this is a big deal. When I said the barrel lifts at the bolt, it's barely perceptable. And I don't think it will ever affect the gun's performance.

RE: Knight DISC Elite question
The free-floating/bedding certainly improves the gun. It now maintains that "Elite" level of accuracy after hundreds of stock removals, varying climate changes, varying barrel temperatures & accidental rifle drops. Having it removed likely backstepped the improvements to it -- taking it back in time to either the earlier Extreme or Original Disc model-makeup. Knight Inc. certainly describes the Elite model features in product outlines & in their brochure/manual.

RE: Knight DISC Elite question
Wow Bigcountry! What did you do that for? The free-floating design of the Elite is what sets it apart from the extreme and other mls, giving it awesome accuracy. Check out this site and consider having that bedding removed.

RE: Knight DISC Elite question
Trekker, Its still freefloated. I just have a more solid bedding. There is a gap between then the barrel and stock. My gunsmith just took out some material around the lug area. I definatly have a better more consistent bedding. It has helped my flyers. I get sub2MOA consistently (3 out of 3 groups last week) with 3-777 pellets and 250 barnes expanders. Thats not easy to accomplish with a load that gets over 2000fps. Trust me.

RE: Knight DISC Elite question
Just got a Knight Disc and am shooting Winchester 209 shotgun primers, 300 grain Hornady Bullet, and 150 grains of 777 powder pellets. Shooting 2 inch groups at 100 yards. Put a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 scope on it and love it.

RE: Knight DISC Elite question
Got back from the range. I was shooting 80 grains (2 pyro tabs) and the 220 grain Dead Center sabot, and I had 1 inch grouping at 50 yds. I didn't get to try it at 100 yds as the range was too crowded to get on. The group was about 2 inch high at that distance. Do you think this is too light a powder load and how much do you think it'll drop at 100 yds?
