RE: Pyrodex vs, Triple 7 ?

If your switching pellet for pellet they are the same for all intent and purposes. Pellets are equal, the loose Triple Se7en is 15% stronger then Pyrodex. So if your putting out loose Triple Se7en you would only put out around 85 grains. But the pellets are equal.

You will also find an increase in the hardness of the crud ring when you change over to Triple Se7en but it will come right out with a water patch. Also many claim they feel the recoil is must sharper with Triple Se7en. I never felt there was much difference personally.

You know, I fought changing over for a long time. I did this year and won't look back. I hate that rotten egg smell from the others.

Pellets, yes - a 50 is a 50, for both powders.....

As stated grain for grain the only difference is clean up and no smell.

I must admit I have to retrack my past statements about T7 pellets offering little for the price. While I prefer the loose T7 for the benefits they offer for velocity, I was at the range this past sunday just shooting and decided to use up some old pyro pellets. What a pain in the arse in all facets smoke, smell, clean up..yuk! I thought before the gain was small and I was dead wrong after shooting T7 all year.

Any way best of luck and enjoy.

lol skeet if you like that then try the Savage and NONE of the problems will haunt you! lol.

The T7 is good stuff no doubt, I switched too it when it came out (was shootin 2 pellets of Pyro under a 200grn RedHot, 209 primer in my 22" Knight). But I was "witnessed too" by a tech and rep with Knight about the cleaner and more efficient burns when dealing with loose T7 vs pellets. We were shooting the 52cal and just TEARIN UP the steel chicken targets at 300yds with 385 grain Barnes bullets. He swore too a faster and cleaner load with the powder vs pellets.

But to heck with ALL that this year, for me its drop 45 grains of N110 down the barrel, seat a 300grn SST on top and then when ya get home you chunker in the closet!

Many shooters have been hurt this past year experimenting with smokeless powders in regular muzzleloaders. You are playing a dangerous game .. my friend! Bore pressures are far different when you compare the two.... blackpowder substitutes are slow & warm in comparison to the hot & fast ignition from smokeless.

I am asking you to stop this practice... at least until you contact Knight Rifles Inc. & listen to their pros & cons on what you're using for powder. I seriously doubt you'll be getting any 'atta-boy' emails or 'green light' phone replies from Knight. Your 52-cal Knight Extreme is a tough hombre that can handle 150 gr. powder charges, but remember this...

"There are no SAAMI Guidelines with Muzzleloaders like there are with centerfires that use smokeless powders. Every barrel specification that comes down the assembly line can be different.. the laws allow it.... even diameter & density. You cannot sue anyone if your experiments fail & you get seriously hurt. So be forewarned & use a little common sense please!

I think he is talking about using the smokeless powder in the savage which is designed for smokeless powders as well as black powder. Not using it in the Knight. At least I hope not. Just make sure with that savage you stay with in the suggested loads. I guess they have had some accidents with them. When I get another muzzle loader it will most likely be a savage. You can't use the smokeless powder in MI for deer, but I just like the rifle. Oh, and before someone runs out and gets one of these savage rifles, you better check your regs to make sure you can use it first. Your state may be like MI, in the southern part of the state you can use it, but it better have balck powder or some substitute during deer season. I also think you have to register them like a fire arm. Same as buying a high powered rifle I think.

If you don't like the clean-up problems the new kid on the block Black Mag3 has almost all the benefits of shooting smokeless in the Savage but it is a substitute for Black Powder in all the muzzleloaders. Only thing is that it is like 777 in that for equal volume charges it is about 15-20% more powerful than black and charges have to be reduced accordingly. I have some and am really impressed with initial results. I will know more later but so far it looks very good. After shooting several rounds without a patch in between the bore only has a light grey powder on a patch. It is supposed to be non-corrosive also. Time will tell.

RE: Pyrodex vs, Triple 7 ?

RA, I have tried the Savage and I do like. Weight would be my only small complaint, can't be happy about everything...lol. In fact this spring I passed on one so my hunting partner could get "the special deal". Hey I have a good shooter while it may require some elbow grease and limit me in some ways my bud didn't and felt he could benefit more from the Savie at the time. What are hunting buds for! Impressive shooter no doubt though.

Wow do I love the SST as well, it shoots rags at 100 with T7 loose/250 gr version would love to see it work on a deer but nothing has really tickled my fancy bone for whitetails as of yet. With a week only left in a mule deer anterless tag I believe this weekend I may change that though.

Good luck!
