Lyman trigger question
I put my great plains rifle together last night for the final sanding, and while checking the lock noticed that when I cocked the hammer, the trigger would not 'catch' for a lack of better terms. It seems that I need to pull the set trigger back until it clicks one time before pulling the hammer back, to get it to function properly. I then can pull the set trigger back to a second click to set the triger. Is this normal? Shouldn't the trigger engage with simply pulling back the hammer?
I tried inletting the trigger set deeper so hoping that the part of the lock that the trigger contacts would provide a bit of downward force to set the trigger in its proper position on cocking, but now the hammer won't stay back unless I pull the set trigger back to its first click. A coworker of mine mentioned that I now need to shim the trigger set out a bit to alleviate this problem, but I still wonder if my trigger is functioning properly or if I just made a new problem trying to solve a nonexistant problem.
