finger cots
 

I have read on a previous post awhile back that you can use a finger cot ( little latex tube to cover a cut on a finger ) to help keep moisture out of your barrel/powder and that you can shoot through them. My question then, is it alright to leave it on over night instead of shooting and cleaning you M/L every night ? Thanks

If you have not shot the rifle and do not want to unload it, take the finger cot off. Put a piece of cotton fabric on the floor, and store the rifle muzzle end down. That way if any moisture does form, it will run away from the powder charge and move down the barrel onto the cotton cloth.

Before you head out in the morning take a dry patch and swab the barrel down to the projectile and then replace the finger cot. Also try to keep the rifle stored over night in the same temps you were hunting in, but in a dry place. Wipe the outside of the rifle off from all the moisture and finger prints that might have formed.

So I should store the M/L inside of my truck and not inside of my heated camp trailer is that right Cayugad ? Thanks

If the inside of your heated camp is a lot warmer then the outside area where you were hunting all day then you're better off to take the primer or cap off and store the rifle in the truck. Just make sure the muzzle is pointed down in case any moisture forms. (Check your regulations... In Wisconsin if the cap is off or the pan is cleaned then they consider the rifle unloaded. Some states do not do that.)

Some people do bring them inside but they wrap them in blankets and let them warm up slow. I have never done that. I am a believer in shooting the rifle off at the end of the day, cleaning it, and then loading fresh in the morning.
