I am using a Bushnell Trophy 3x9x40 with Mil-Dot reticle's. I have them on two different inlines a Remington and an Austin & Halleck. They have been on now for a couple of years and are working great. I really like the Mil-Dot for BP it really helps with the eliptical path of a muzzleloadeing bullet. You will probably need to get medium rings to mount the scope on most bases so the objective lens is off the barrel. Good luck |
RE: suggestions for a scope. under 100 bucks
I just bought a Bushnell Banner 3-9 X40 mm (BH713947) with the circle X reticle and 6" eye relief from Natchez for $64.95. I had it out today and the scope was real clear and easy to adjust, but for some reason I need to shim this one. I could not get the scope to come up high enough. I have another Bushnell Banner 1.4 X 4.5 X 32mm on my CVA Staghorn and it shoots great. I have pumped a lot of loads through it and it has never faltered at all. Bushnell also has a good guarantee...

RE: suggestions for a scope. under 100 bucks
I have a Bushnell Sportview Shotgun Scope (1.5X4.5) on my Knight and it has never given a moments problem. Paid about $70 for it 2yrs ago at Bass Pro.
cayugad..................have you had any other scope mounted on that rifle yet?? I had to shim the rear mount on my USAK when I mounted that scope - either the mounts (Knight See-thrus)were not of equal height or else the receiver is not exactly level across the breech area. Either way, all is well now and I've never had to go back to retorque the mount or adjust the scope. :D |
RE: suggestions for a scope. under 100 bucks
thanks for the advice. i had a guy in a store try to tell me a shotgun scope wouldnt hold up. i didnt believe him as i know my muzzleloader does not have any more kick then a 3.5 inch turkey load from a shotgun. of course it wouldnt hold up (in his eyes anyway)-the rifle scope was 30 bucks more

RE: suggestions for a scope. under 100 bucks
One good thing about shotgun scopes it that they have an eye relief greater than most rifle scopes, which is a good thing for muzzleloading.
and they are supposed to be STRONGER than standard rifle scopes, not weaker...................sounds like "somebody" was working on commission. [&:] |

I also have a Bushnell Banner "Dusk To Dawn" scope on my Encore 209x50. It is the 3x9x40 and has about 3.5" of eye relief. I have used it with 150 grain loads pushing a 300 grain sabot without any problems. I have also had it mounted on my slug gun for 2 seasons. I think it is a great scope for the money. I think I paid around $80 for it. The optics are clear and I have not babied it. It works well enough for me to shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yards. Check out my thread.

G2 Shooter, how's it shooting. I'm still playing with mine trying to get the right scope setup.
This place has some nice prices on Millett scopes: http://www.bosesguns.com/index.asp?P...S&Category=354 and http://www.bosesguns.com/index.asp?P...S&Category=353 I like the Bushnell Dusk & Dawn scopes also. |

Stumpy,
Something I forgot to mention was rings and bases. Since you have a Knight, I would suggest Leupold rings and bases. You will probably spend another $40 for the set. If you have more money, get the QD rings and bases. They make cleaning much easier when you don't have to worry about getting your scope wet or banged up. |
RE: suggestions for a scope. under 100 bucks
I bought a Bushnell from Walmart for $40, and it works great. I'd like to buy a good scope/rings combo someday, but it works fine for now.
The more important thing I'd address is limiting your shots to 100yards. Take a few shots at 150, to know you can hit that far out, if you have to. It's important to locate where your deer was standing when you shot. Tracking is tough with muzzleloaders, sometimes deer just don't bleed very well from a .44 or .45 cal bullet. |
RE: suggestions for a scope. under 100 bucks
stumpy291 :I have two buck silvers made by millet they are excellent scope
one is on a 54 cal. thunderhawk the other on a 8mm bnz mauser @ thay have a lifetime warrabty no question asked. |
RE: suggestions for a scope. under 100 bucks
The Millett 1.5x4 came in yesterday. Put it on my G2. Solid as a rock and amazingly clear. Nice little scope and I no longer need to worry about the scope integrating with my forehead.
![]() Hurriedly sighted it back in early this afternoon. Pretty strong wind gusts, blowing rain, and getting cold out there so I was very happy with the results. ![]() |
RE: suggestions for a scope. under 100 bucks
I have several Bushnell scopes and never a problem with any of them. My most recent ones are Banners Dusk-Dawn 1.5-4.5 x 32 and I like them a lot (one on my Ithace 37 and one on my Rossi ML). Can't go wrong for $60-70.
