powerbelts

Anyone have an opinion on powerbelt bullets ? They are recommended for my M/L but thought maybe CVA had a deal with powerbelts to recommend them.Do the aero tips penatrate better than the hollow points ?
Also any opinions on the "Cabela's Dead Center " sabots ? They claim that they penetrate deeper for a heavier blood trail . Thanks

RE: powerbelts

Powerbelts for the most part shoot fantastic out of BPI (CVA, Winchester) rifles and other brands as well. The trick is not to push them too hard. Stay around 100 grains of powder and you will be fine.

Also remove the plastic wad on the back of them before you load them. Use some bore butter and and lube the lead spike of the conical and then replace the plastic wad. It will make them release the wad much faster and give you better accuracy.

The Aero Tip will always give you better penetration and that is why they are prefered because you get a complete pass through and a better blood trail.

As for the Dead Center Sabots... excellent. They are great shooters. They are made by precision rifle Dead Center Sabots. You might want to check their site, look up your rifle and see which ones they suggest....

I love the powerbelts, I find them easy to load and they group very well... If you are shooting 125 yards and less I would say go with them.

In contrast to cayugad I leave the plastic wad on and have not had any problems.

emsruss- A lot of people like Powerbelts and have had good experience with them. I prefer to have a little more friction, which is why I shoot sabots. When shooting Powerbelts out of my Encore, I found it necessary to season the barrel (shoot a at least one shot through it) or else there was very little compression. The first shot kicked like a .22 magnum even though I was shooting 100 grains of powder... Kind of odd...

Oh, and you're right about CVA pushing people to use Powerbelts in their muzzleloaders because CVA makes Powerbelts. ;)

I use Power Belts exclusively in my TC Black Diamond. 90grs of Clear Shot. Killed an elk last Sep and another 2 years ago. They are accurate in my ML and they shoot thru elk. Can't ask for anything more.
