777 pellet equiv to Pyrodex RS (grams)

I have a CVA Optima Pro that creates a fouling ring while using 777 pellets (where the two pellets meet), therefore, I plan to try to use Pyrodex RS powder. I understand that 72 grams of pyrodex is equal to 100 grams of blackpowder. Can anyone share a equiv. coversion between 777 and Pyrodex RS?

Thanks

vadeer,

I believe your RS conversion to black powder is not quite correct. Actually loose RS and 2fg Black Powder are actually pretty close to each other in strength. However, if comparing the 2 pellet load of Pyro to Black that would probably be close to correct - as a 50gr pellet of Pyro acyually only contains about 40gr of actual Pyro with the other 10gr being a burn accelerator.

When using 777 loose powder, you need to drop your charge about 15% compared to loose RS or Black Powder loads. so if your were firing 100gr of loose RS or Black, drop down to 85gr of 777 and you'll be real close to getting the same results on target.

However, if you want to compare Pyro Pellets to 777 pellets that's a different story. The 777 pellets were designed to duplicate the Pyro Pellets, so no reduction is necessary..............a 2 Pyro Pellet load is equal to a 2 777 Pellet load.

Hope you mean grains? Hope your not loading 85grams of powder into your muzzleloader. Big boom.

Good point bigcountry. If you're going to use loose Pyrodex RS just load 100 grains of the loose and it should do the same thing as two pellets of the Triple Se7en you were using.

Now a days I shoot all most all Goex. The crud ring problems are not as serious. Granted they still exhist, but a wet swab will take them right out of the breech and bore. Goex also seems to really be constant unlike some of the other powders. I have one rifle that loves Triple Se7en so I keep a jug around for it. And one little .50 caliber really liked Pyrodex RS for accuracy. The rest get Goex FFg & FFFg.

~87grams of 777 FFg is about same as 100grams of Prydex FFg.

Dear Sir!! As long as you are using an adjustable volume measure, you should have NO PORBLEMSINCE THEY ARE CALIBRATED IN GARINS, NOT GRAMS!! Please note that there are 15.42 GRAINS in each GRAM! If you used 100 grams, that woiuld be a temendous overload, no matter what kind of powder you were using!! Like, 1,542 grains, even.

that there are 15.42 GRAINS
I guess looking back I think after filling his measure 15 times, and powder almost comingout the barrel, he would know that 100grams is on the heft side.

Thanks all for the input. Got me on the typo - grains v. grams. Never make that mistake again! :)
