Omega / site through scope mts.?
A guy at Gander Mt told me I can't put see through scope mounts on my omega. Any one know if he is right?

RE: Omega / site through scope mts.?
Tell the guy at Gander Mountain to start buying his crack at a different street corner....lol. BTW... Where is Sunfield Michigan?... I'm from Clinton Township/Sterling Heights region.
I know a few Omega shooters (including myself) who use see-thrus. I wouldn't trust em' with over 120 grains of Pyrodex/110+ grains 777 with 300+ grain bullets, but with my hundreds of shots using 105 777 with a 240-285 bullet, they haven't budged from zero yet. |

I don't own one. but I seen one at a store with see through mounts. So your sales person is wrong. One point I will bring up and that is the idea of see through mounts themselves.
Personally the one rifle I ever put a see through scope mounts on I never used the sights again for anything other then an occasional target shooting. I practice so much with the scope that on a low power setting I have never had a problem taking close shots, even in thick woods. I have even made running shots with a scope although many people refuse to do that or advise against it. The closer you can get the scope to the barrel the better off you are. The mount will be stronger and the position your head will rest on the stock of the rifle will be more consistant then when your stretching you neck to look through the raised mounts. Also on the scope mounts you get if you are a clean freak like I am, I wish now I would have got the removable mounts that from some of the posts I have read, will return to O point of aim when put back on. It just makes the rifle that much more easy to clean. Of course with the Omega you are not going to have the blow back like I do on my Black Diamond I am guessing. Good luck with your rifle. |
RE: Omega / site through scope mts.?
The first and only buck I killed with a gun was becouse of see through sites. That being said I'll more than likely use the scope 99% of the time so I think I'll go with the reg. mounts. Thanks for the advice guys!
Sunfield is 5 min West of Mulliken;) (25 min west of Lansing) |

Robow,
You've made the right decision, in my opinion. Last year, I started out with see-thru sights on my Encore and quickly switched to the Leupold quick-release scope mount and I like it very much. As cayugad said, they make it easy to remove the scope for cleaning, plus it's nice and low with only about 1/16' between the front of the scope and the barrel. My cheek rests much more comfortably on the stock than it did with the over/under mount. |

RE: Omega / site through scope mts.?
Ive got them on my omega , and love them . They work great . The guy from gander mountain is full of it . The reason I have them is , one of my friends had a big 10 point come under his stand 3 years ago he aimed and shot and hit his stand . He got to watch the 10 point run away . If he could have used his sights that would not have happened , needless to say he changed . He has a contender , and it uses the same rings and mounts as the omega . Allso scopes are legal in Florida where Im from , but I hunt Georgia allso and they arnt legal there , I can sight in , and just remove my scope when I go to Georgia .

I'm sure there are quite a few people who like them. They certainly make enough different kinds! The only "see-under" design I've used that IO like are the German claw mounts. They are strong as hell, and also permit instantaneous removal and reattachment with no change in zero. The only disadvantage to them is the mounts cost more than your rifle!! |
RE: Omega / site through scope mts.?
Not 1oo% sure but I think the rings I have are made by t/c , I know the mount is , they are pretty stout . They are the weaver rail type of mounts/rings . They were'nt cheap .

If anyone is interested in a one piece stainless over/under mount for an Encore (according to an above post, it will fit the Omega too), send me a private message.
