Load workups

I have seen a few inferences to load workups, but I have a couple of specific questions if y'all will pardon my ignorance.

First, for the powder shooters, what load step sizes do you try for? 5-grains per load or is that to small of a change to worry with?

Second, for the pellet shooters, does anyone mix and match the 30 grain and 50 grain pellets to work up loads in 10 grain increments? Any pro's and con's you've found while doing this?

Thanks guys (and gals).

5 grain increments is what I do,and yes you can use 50 and 30 gr. pellets together, they make them so you can custum your load some what using pellets.Good luck;)

I also use 5 grain increments. However, be sure and shoot 3 shot groups at each level. Can't really get a good idea of how well that load will work without a 3 or more shot pattern.

have never used pellets, but those that do say that mixing the pellets is ok.

DVD: I bet you are getted charged up about going! I know I am. I leave on the 8th. Just went out for my last tune up at the range yesterday and my last 3 shot group was 1" at 80 yards. Hope I can shoot that well in the field. Good luck.

RE: Load workups

As Txhunter58 and others have mentioned, 5 grain amounts is the standard work up. A word of caution, when working up your load do not be too quick to adjust your sights. Many rifles have a break in period of time until they start to shoot a consistant group. During this time all the burrs and ruff spots seem to wear out of the barrel, then it starts to produce the sweet loads...

I also shoot groups at each level only I do a five shot group. I shoot five rounds and if I know one of the shots was not my best effort, then I do a six shot group. I want to see a nice tight group before I decide whether to move the powder charge. If your shooting a string they claim to add a few grains if your shooting a flat line then reduce a few grains... according to the old timers that taught me...
