As in almost every situation, I agree with eldeguello & cayugad. You only need a minimum of 180 grain sabot/bullet or conical with a properly-placed shot in 50-cal MLs with moderate powder charges.

IF you shoot a patched round ball from your rifle with 30 to perhaps as much as 50 grains of powder (this will require some experimenting), you can develop an accurate, cheap plinking load that can be used for informal target shooting as well as busting beer cans, etc.
