Yes... our group has harvested elk.

If you need a good sabot/bullet for your hunt, there are a couple of magazine authors that use these below.

They have high B.C. (.301) .... they load easy & expand moderately at that weight. We did experience a pass-thru with ours.

Where did you draw a tag?

I ask because you need to read the regulations concerning the components that you can use when ML hunting. This will make a big difference in what bullets and powder you choose to hunt with.

Out here in WA. the concenus is the 348grain Power Belt, with 90-100 grains of 777 or Pyrodex. I am also using the Black Daimond for the first time this year and so far 100 grains of 777 seems to be a little much, gettin quite a bit of unused powder resiude, so I think I'll tone it down to 90 and see then?

But you do need to find out what components are legal in your State first?

Are sabots illegal there? The reason I ask is I have a Black Diamond XR and have worked up some excellent loads that I am sure would work on an elk sized animal.

I shoot a 250 or 300 grains Shockwave with 110 grains of Goex FFg. Because of the aero tip on the projectile I think it would get excellent penetration into the animal.

I also shoot some 405 grain Remington SP .458 diameter out of some Knight (orange) sabots and with 90 grains of Goex Ffg I can shoot excellent groups out to 100 yards with them. Because of the flat nose and weight, I think they would also work good.

I do think you might be on the right track with the 348 grain aero tip powerbelts. I think those would work excellent on an elk. Or you could go to the next size up which is the 405 grain if you really wanted to put some weight behind the projectile.

Good luck with your hunt. I will be watching for your updates on it....
