new traditions muzzeloader

I just ordered my wife the Traditions Lightning Bolt Action IN-line and was wondering if anyone knew what type of brand of scope mounts will go with the gun. The gun hasn't arrived yet but like to go ahead and get the scope mounts and scope.

Your best bet would be to e-mail Tradition's and ask them which ones fit your rifle. Otherwise look through the different makes of bases and rings out there and have them tell you which ones will fit a round in line receiver. My book actually says 418M is the model you want....

Are you aware that the Lightning Bolt is a discontinued model with complaints concerning it's trigger, excessive blowback & sticking bolt-action? Prior to the Lightning, the discontinued E-Bolt had the same problems... plus one or two more.

It would probably cost you less to buy the plunger-action Tradition Tracker or for a few dollars more, the Evolution. Both of these models have better track records. Also look at ordering the new break-action Pursuit model. The basic, plain-jane version is not much money & your wife would like how easy it is to clean & operate.

thanks for the info, and no I wasn't aware of the problems with the model I ordered. As many times as I've visited this forum, I've never seen anything bad written about them. I got the durn thing yesterday, and the first thing I noticed was that the bolt is a pain in the butt.

Should you not return it & exchange it for another model, that tough-acting bolt sounds like you will be the one disassembling/assembling it... not your wife...lol

Either direction you go or no direction -- I didn't mean to panic/alarm you. There are plenty of fine-functioning Lightning Bolts out there & hopefully you have one of them. Here's hoping it provides you with many-many years of satisfactory service. Need any other help down the road... feel free to ask!
