Any bullets?

Hi all, New to the site here. I have a Winchester X150 in .45 cal. I am looking for a different bullet to try. I am currently shooting the Power Belts in 275 grain and getting 1" to 1 1/4" groups @ 100 yards. I am impressed with the grouping considering its with open sights. But i am looking for a .45 cal bullet that is a little heavier upwards in the 400 grain mark to try out. I will not shoot sabots. They are junk. I want a good reliable bullet to try out. If you know of any and can post the web site I would appreciate it.

Thanks and good hunting this fall

I am not real up on what a .45 caliber rifle would need reference the diameter of the bore in order to get a good shooting conical. You might have to look into something like a .457 diameter .45 caliber 405 grain pure lead bullet that you could shoot as a conical. This might work as a conical. There is also the chance to get some in .451. These are bullets which I commonly shoot as sabots out of my .50 caliber.

Check out this site...

Black Jacks

They make pure lead (BHN 5) bullets and some of the diameters and bullet weights might be able to be used by you. Actually if I were gettting the kind of accuracy you are with open sights, I would stick with what I was using, but I can understand why you want something with a little more weight.

Hope this link will help.

You are NOT going to improve on your open-sights 100 yard groups or your Aero-Tip bullet by trading it in on another conical.

You may duplicate those numbers with a new sabot/bullet but really... WHY CHANGE???

Wow, open sights 1" groups with a muzzleloader. Thats is very impressive if you can do that consistently. You ought to be in competition. I have shot ML's for a long time and could never do that with open sights, and rarely see that with open sights with a muzzleloader.

Another site you can check for a large .45 caliber conical would be No Excuse Bullets. They make some big conicals that do well in most modern muzzleloaders. I just got a shipment of 460 grains in today but have not had a chance to try them yet....

I am happy with the groups I am getting but I would like to hunt Elk with it and would like to get into something with 350 grains or more.

My Austin and Hallek shot groups just as well with open sights. I sold it because of the chitty bolt. I am glad I have another muzz gun that holds the same grouping. Now i only need to up grade one more time with one of the new Omega style guns. I hope when I do that it will shoot as well.

Scroll down to the near-bottom of the page. Look for the QT Polymer Tips in 330 & 360 grain for your 45. Cecil is a bit slow to get them to your door. Be patient... it may take at least 10 days. Actually, it's not so-much Cecil... it's the Canada Authority at the Canada/US border.

After you order the bullets, go to Cabelas.com & order a tub of their white lube (Cabelas Lube). Mix it/melt it 50-50 with Bore Butter -- then melt both -- stir -- then dip the bottom 1/2 of the QT conical in the mix with needle-nose pliars. It will harden in about 30 seconds... that white stuff mixed with the yellow Butter makes a great bullet lube.

I can't imagin changing anything if I could with all honesty shoot a 1" group at 100 yards with open sights, I'd just shoot em in the eye. Give us a break Muzz30

Give us a break? and what is that supposed to mean? You dont belive me that I have groups that tight?

RE: Any bullets?

One time by accedent ok, but I sure don't beleve it, 1" with a factory muzzleloader shooting of all things a power belt with open sights with any regularity, I can't buy it.
If you can do that at 100 yds. why would you think you could improve on it anyway, you need to be shooting competition, leavin all challengers in your smoke somewhere, not blowin smoke.
Check out the web sight T 7 posted for you, get some of Precisions bullets and try them, their the best out there, who knows you may be able to boast 1/2" groups next time.

RE: Any bullets?

Well say what you want about my groups, Find a Utah guy tocome watch me shoot and he will confim my groups, Dont be pissed because I can get mine to shoot that tight, I am after a different bullet because I have recently heard that the power belts dont hold up well, I am also after a heavier bullet to hunt elk with. I dont need to shoot competition all I want is my weapon to be accurate in my hands and know where I am shooting. So dont come on here and call bull**** on me when you for one dont know me and for two have no way of knowing what i am shooting. I dont need to come to a web site and get into pissin matches over something like this. I care about where I shoot game and make sure i hit the game with a killing shot. Forgive me for giving a **** and being an ethical hunter. Go practice and maybe you will get yours to shoot good. If my guns dont shoot well then there down the road. Its just the way I am.

Muzz, I know you Speak the Truth. My Knight will do the Same. But I prefer a Scope these Days.

RE: Any bullets?

Well I know of alot of muzzleloaders that will shoot groups like that. Take the time to get a good load that works and walla. I am glad someone has the balls to admit there getting the same groups. I prefer a scope myself, I just bought a Millet red dot scope for mine.
