RE: Lead
Do not laugh I get my lead from a x-ray room insaller. It is about 3/16 thick sheet lead . The scrap is clean I have to pay for it , not much . But most is used , it has drywall paper glued to it , they change the lead every so often , I am told it is safe. Just melt it down out side , the paper and glue smoke. Just ask around.

RE: Lead
Wheel weights, used ones..(most garages have bins full of the stuff) I don't know about the US, but in Europe this stuff has to be treated as chemical waist and most garages will just give the stuff to you for nope (A few beers are always welcome of course..), old plumming (water piping) check around when old houses are being torn down or are redone. Usually the workers will just hnd the old stuff to you. Works for me.

RE: Lead
Alloy Type BHN Number
Pure Lead 4 to 5
Wheel Weights 9 to 10
#2 Alloy 15 to 16
Linotype 22 to 25
This will give you an idea of the different kinds of street leads out there. I try and stay as pure as possible. The harder BHN is fine for pistol bullets but in a muzzleloader I want lead as pure as possible.

RE: Lead
eagleout, if you hit the motherload of pure lead - let me know. I know a fellow that needs a BUNCH of it. Anyone else for that matter, if you know of a reasonable single source for a BUNCH of lead (like a ton or more) - please let me know. Pure lead, or very nearly pure only.
