Colt Blackpowder Pistols
Well, I finally got together the doe to buy a Colt Blackpowder pistol in 1860 Army. Well, I guess, cause they are going out of business, they raised the price almost 40%. The walkers was 450 or so last time I looked, now are a cool 8 bills. Screw that. Ain't right to ream people. I hate to buy the italian reproductions.

RE: Colt Blackpowder Pistols
bigcountry, I maybe wrong. I heard somewhere that the new Colt BP guns are NOT made by Colt anymore. If I remember right they are made by a Italian company who Colt contracted. If you want a good shooting BP revolver built to last get the Ruger "Old Army" Available in Blued or Stainless Steel.Made in the USA.They are a bit pricey too!Ruger Redhawk

bigcountry,
I believe the above posters are correct. I think the Italian firms are making all but the Ruger models these days. Even so, that is not such a bad thing. These guns work pretty good. Check out what my 13yr old son just managed to do with my "cheapo" CVA 1858 model (his are the last 4 photos): http://community.webshots.com/album/30689891dLwPFnwjza When you pick up the Ruger, you know you've got a good piece of metal in your hands - but for $500 you SHOULD have a good piece. But, by & large, any gun is only as good as its maintenance anyway. "Every moving thing that liveth, I give unto you as meat" (Gen 9:3) Trust God..........but keep your powder dry! |
RE: Colt Blackpowder Pistols
It seems to me that the quality of some of the Italian-made guns has improved recently, but I don't know who is making the best revolvers. Pedersoli makes good rifles and shotguns, for sure!!

RE: Colt Blackpowder Pistols
I know the Italians make good copies. It was just a USA pride thing. You know like, the new Japanese Cruisers are hard to tell apart from HD's, but I have had both, and still ride the HD. Just doesn't feel right.
Just because I was curious, I called the factory. They said they are made in Brooklyn, NY from start to finish. I will take a look at the rugers. Edited by - bigcountry on 02/21/2002 08:59:30 |

propmahn,
they are fun little toys! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> And they make great display pieces when you're not shooting them as well. "Every moving thing that liveth, I give unto you as meat" (Gen 9:3) Trust God..........but keep your powder dry! |
