TC Omega. Thoughts??

I have a Thompson Center Black Diamond in 50 cal. I like it but hate to clean it. I always have trouble getting to the breech plug without banging the scope. I was thinking about changing to the Omega. Less blow back. Less clean up. Hopefully easier to get apart. Any good or bad thoughts on the Omega?

Get a 9" or 12" extension for your socket rachet and a small 7/16th socket. All of that will slide right through the back fo the breech and onto the nipple and breech plug. It is long enough to get past the scope. I have a scope on my rifle also. You can then turn the nipple and breech plug out easy.

I found my extention in a bargin bin at the hardware store for $2.99 and it fits right onto my craftsman socket set. You can even field clean the rifle at the range if you want. Just throw the extention and a small 7/16th socket into the possible bag.

I shot mine today again. I really shoots well with 100 grains of Pyrodex RS and a T/C 250 grain shockwave. At 50 yards off shooting sticks I shot an excellent group.

The Omega is the way to go. It is VERY quick & easy to clean, light, & accurate. I shoot the Triple 7 as well.

I think the position of the trigger in the triggerguard is a bit awkward as well as the size of the triggerguard is small when wearing gloves.

Cleaning an Omega that burns 777 is really easy compared to cleaning a GPR that burns BP. I've never owned a bolt inline, so I can't comment on that style of gun. The messiest part of cleaning the Omega is greasing the threaded breech plug with automotive anti-seize compound.

One word of caution on the Omega though, inspect the scope base mounting screw holes on the Omega barrel very carefully. I had an unpleasant experience with T/C last fall when the Omega I purchased was manufactured with a defective scope base mounting screw.
