RE: Have you tried these?

Herman,
My friend and I have shot a bunch of deer with the ML, using round balls, maxi balls, maxi hunters and powerbelts. Not one of these deer dropped any blood for 75 yards. Again this is due to lack of bullet expansion due to relatively low velocity. Most of the time here in PA, the ML season usually has enough snow to aid in tracking. But you have to watch the deer's reaction to the shot. A pretty sure sign of a hit is the deer running away with its tail tucked tight down., or if it kicks its hind legs out. Examine closely the path the animal takes. Check the trail closely for a dragging leg, a pin size drop of blood, etc.

I too have killed a lot of deer myself, taken 1 to 3 deer per year with different types of muzzleloaders, except for 2 of those years because of sickness didn't get to hunt, since our state has had a muzzleloading season. When using a muzzleloader it is pretty hard to see the reaction of the deer at close range with a face full of smoke.
Been hunting with gun bow and muzzleloader over 50 yrs now, taking over 200 deer,35 with a stick and string, so I don't think I am too bad of a tracker either.
The power belts took one year before last at 155 yds dropping it in its tracks.
Was telling why I didn't like the 195 gr barnes,They will shoot less than an inch group on paper but didn't work to good on a live deer.

RE: Have you tried these?

This past Dec. I shot at a nice 8 pt. using a 345gr. PB over 85 grns. T7. The deer was inside 100 yds., when I shot the deer took off like someone had lit it's tail on fire, about three minutes later my friend, who was one hill and 300 yds. from me fired and got the deer. My bullet had hit the L front shoulder blade and blew-up, had my friend not shot it the deer would have eventually dies from the wound, but it might have taken several days for that to happen, not good. He was using the PR 300 gr. silver lightning over 2 50gr. T7 pellets. His bullet hit a rib, tore-up the lungs and stopped just under the skin on the opposite side. The buck dressed at 195 lbs. and had almost 135 in. of antler.
I have read where others have had problems with the PB's, I have also read where some swear by them but I know I will not use them again, I killed a lg. doe 2 days later using the 300 gr. PR silver lightning (had to re-sight the gun) and at 60+ yds. it knocked her off her feet and she never got back up. The bullet was a complete pass-thru. Since then I have tried several different weights of the PR's along with several other makes of sabots. For my money, the PR bullets have the best accuracy of any I have tried, but they are expensive unless you buy in bulk. I got their Xmas special and paid about $85 for 250 rounds, less then .50 per bullet. They a special going on right now for working up different loads and I plan on buying some of their conicals to try.
This is not an advertisement for PR bullets, but I have not read or heard anything negative about these bullets except for the price. They are good.

The best advice I can give you is, SELL THE REMINGTON, buy an Encore, buy some Presision Dead Center sabo's with 100gr. of Trip.7 and be happy.

RE: Have you tried these?

i've shot a few deer with the barnes and to tell you the truth, i was very happy with the wound channel.....the only problem that i had was that my groups were not as tight as with some of the other bullets that i shoot.....Last year I shot TC 250 gr shockwaves and i was very impressed with the accuracy and great impact power. I was shooting 1/2 inch groups @ 100yds with 100 gr 777. Your best bet is to try a few different types of bullets until you find the one that works best with your application.

No expansion from a muzzleloader bullet?????

This is my friend, Bob Bowers from Virginia, last fall. I had similar results from my own bullets.
