my hawken.....
well i finally decided to finish my tc 50cal hawken flinter im going to turn all the brass black to look like the steel like the original hawkens....i read to use brass black....and someone here or at another board posted a site with directions but no product maker.....sounds simple and it looked how i want mine to look......then in a few years ill brown the barrel and have a neat looking TC.....if you would still call it a TC.....id call it a mauser special lol.....mostly original parts many add ons and everything refinished....it should look perdy when im done...i dont want to brown it yet because my bluing is nice looking still....but who makes "brass black" and where can i find it?? i think it was this board.....if not i will post on the other just to be safe.......thanx alot.......

Birchwood Casey markets Brass Black. At one time Dixie Gun works had a furniture kit for the T/C Hawken, with everything , including the buttplate, in steel. If it is still available, I would go that route instead, replace the brass furniture and brown the new steel parts.

I wish T/C would have left the patchbox off the Hawken. I don't like the looks of it.:)

The T/C Renegade over at Fox is almost identical to the Hawkens... minus the brass and two inches in barrel length. About $100 less too! |
