Muzzleloader Scope????
 

Gentlemen,

Ok, we all know that you get what you pay for. I've ordered my Savage 10MLII. Now I'm in the market for a quality scope. It doesn't have to the best scope in the world, but I'd rather not nickle and dime myself to death finding one of good quality that's durable, dependable and going to last. Any suggestions?

I don't mean to sound ignorant as I'm not sure, but is a rifle scope and a muzzleloader scope the same thing?

Get a straight 4X leupold scope.

When I look got a muzzleloader scope, I look for a shotgun scope really. I want something with lots of eye relief. Also low power is all that is really needed. After all we are not going to be shooting long distances for the most part. Some guys go with a 3 X 9 power. I went with a 1.5 X 4.5 power. So when I am walking hunting the hardwoods, I can turn it down to 1.5 power and have a fantastic field of view.

I put a Bushnell Banner Dusk to Dawn 1.5 X 4.5 32 mm on my Black Diamond XR and so far I have been real happy with it. At close range it is nice to have the low power. At 100 yards, I crank it up to 4.5 and it is still fine.

I just recently put a Leupold VX-II 3x9x40mm scope on my new T/C Black Diamond XR. I also used the Leupold QR rings and bases with the advice of others on the forum. The ability
to remove the scope while cleaning the gun and putting it back on and the scope return to zero is well worth the extra cost of the QR setup. I haven't been able to get out and shoot this new rig yet but am looking forward to when I can. I just hope it shoots as good as it looks!:D

That is a nice set up MOTurkeyTamer. I always wanted a scope like that but would never go the extra for one. I bet that is a real good shooter. By the way, what loads are you shooting out of your Black Diamond? Tomorrow I am going to try some big conicals and see how they do....

What cayugad said at first!! :)

I put a $70 Bushnell SportView Shotgun scope on my Knight (1.5X4.5) and it has served well now going on it's 3rd year. :)

I suggest a 3-9x40 rifle scope especialy if you are going to shoot over 150 yds. Good luck.

Either a low power variable or a fixed 4x. My low cost pick would be Sightron(sic?). They have a good reputation but I don't have any first hand experiance with them. I installed a cheap 4x scope on my ML 7 or 8 years ago and it still works fine.

In my opinion Bushnell Trophy is the best bang for the Buck. I have a Baner Dusk to Dawn on my ML and it works great Year after year. It has performed perfectly I only shoot out to 100 yds so the 1.5 X 4.5 works well for me. I have a Trophy on my slug gun and on my .308 and they have worked perfectly also. I agree Leuold is a better Scope but the cost is about 2 to 4 times that of a Bushnell ( I bought a Bushnell Trophy 3X9 at the Cabelas Store in PA last year for $75 couldnt pass it up) I am getting a new Muzzle loader this spring (waiting for the new Knight) and I will probably go with a Leupold just because I have the money to buy a better one. The Luepold sportsman is a real nice scope for a ML for about $180

If you can afford better=Leupold Sportsman $200
THE BEST Leupold VX-III for $400 (in my opinion the best but very expensive)

I can't comment on any other brands becaues I don't own or have not used any others(other than Tasco and I wont even bother)
