What's going on with my bore?
#1
Hey Everyone. Long time...glad to see so many dedicated posters here vs spazos like me
Stainless TC Omega. Prior to the season, the bore was flawless. I shot a deer in late November and reloaded in the field (BH209). I unfortunately didn't get around to cleaning it until a couple of days ago, but I didn't think much of it seeing that it was essentially smokeless powder (add smoke) and I keep my guns in a dehumidified safe. After cleaning, I took to the bore with a makeshift borescope, and have no idea what I'm looking at. I never use brushes but I scrubbed the hell out of it. Used JB Bore Paste, no use. Soaked the bore in Kroil overnight, then scrubbed the next day with 000 steel wool. Still there.
The ONLY thing I can think of is that I treated the bore with Dyna-Tek Bore Coat when I first got it about 7 years ago (after a very thorough cleaning). Could it be the Bore Coat is starting to come off? Up near the muzzle there's a big spot. It crosses from land to groove. If I stick a toothpick in the groove and ride it alongside the land, I can feel a bump. So it is definitely raised and not pitting. I figured if it were some type of a corrosion the work I did would have gotten rid of any protrusions. Thoughts? Pics in a sec...
