Default Thinking of a new bullet mold

I was looking on the Addurate Mold webstie and I'm seriously thinking of getting their #44-390 mold. Having it machined to .444" or .445" and paper patch for my 45 cal GMLRH barrel and my .45x209 Encore. Paper patching my .443" bullets gets me to .447". They're accurate but loose. I think the extra .002" won't be too tight and even if so I can size them down. The Berger stability chart shows that at 1.07" long these should be very stable.
Any thought from you paper patchers.

You should ask IdahoLewis about this. He has lots of experience with PP and the 45cal LRH barrels. You know where to find him.

I'm thinking about that mould I think. This is the one I'm looking at.

What diameter you choose depends on the paper you have or plan to use. I am looking at it with a diameter of .442 the paper I have will add between .006 and .007 that will give me a finish size of .448 to .449 I want this mould to be able to patch as poured. Most of these type of bullets shoot best a little more lose than a hunting bullet. The slip fit bullets shoot pretty well.

Ron thats the one I ordered but I ordered it at .444" +.002/-.000. I figure if its too big I can always size it down a couple thousandths

As I’ve told both of you guy’s, With Accurate Bullet Molds Tolerance Window of .002, In my humble opinion the .442 using his PLUS Tolerance is the Best Way to go, To make it a little more confusing you could also go .443 And use his CENTERED Tolerance, Which is essentially the Same thing as going .442 PLUS Tolerance.

.002 is a Large Tolerance window (Unfortunately, it is what it is With Accurate Bullet Molds) When compared to Molds like BACO (Buffalo Arms Co.) is .00005 (1/2 a Thousandth) All of My BACO Molds are SPOT ON what i ordered them, They even come with a “Proof Bullet” in a little Ziplock bag that is Stapled inside the Cardboard Mold Box, This “Proof Bullet” Shows what the Mold Casts, It is ultimately up to the Caster to get the Most out of his New Mold

.442 PLUS Tolerance GAURANTEES The Bullet will be at least .442 Diameter, But it could be as large as .444

.443 CENTERED Tolerance, you could end up .442, .443, or .444 Diameter

Typical .45 Cal Muzzleloader Bore Diameters are .450, .451, and .452, .451 Being the Most Common. With Groove Diameter of .458

To make all of this work like a “Fine Oiled Machine” It Boils down to Knowing your Bore Diameter, and the Thickness of your Chosen Paper. The Paper Patched Bullet should load with Minimal effort. In a .450 Bore a Finished bullet of .449 is Ideal (I find best Accuracy around .001 under Bore) The least the Bullet is Forced to “Upset” the Better off you are, If the Bullet fits to loose you lose some Seal (Along with that is some Velocity loss) as the Bullet “Upsets” Obturates.

On the Safe side, I have “Bottom end” PP Bullet Sizers, .442 & .443 for .45 Cal, & .492 & .493 for .50 Cal, I work with Several different .45 and .50 Cal Muzzleloaders, All with slight Bore dimension variances, Having these sizers along with a Few different Paper Thicknesses ensures i can Find a Perfect Fit 👍

When the above is all put together. This is my most recent Shoot, 750 Yards .50 Cal

825 Yards, .45 Cal

Lewis as we discussed the reason I went with the .444" (+.002/-.000) is because I already checked my bore with patched bullets. With my current bullet @ .443" a 2 layer wrap of my paper is almost a drop fit. When I took a paper patch and cut it in half giving me 3 wraps it was a perfect fit. All that's needed to seat is slight pressure on the ramrod - maybe 2-3 lbs.
Trying to measure a paper patch bullet is tricky so you don't crush the paper but if the mold throws a .445" bullet, my 2 layer wrap of paper should be perfect for me.
I was shooting the 11 mm bullet (.443") with decent results - even shot a doe at about 75 yards with one but I think a slightly larger diameter will even be better.
I'll know in the spring when I get back to PA. I brought all my casting stuff down here to FL to give me something to do. I'll likely have a couple hundred ready to paper patch when I get up north.
That's some great shooting Lewis. Do you have any idea what your mid-range trajectory is at that distance with those bullets? They also seem to hit with some authority judging by the way they rock the gong and splatter! Also, what is that solution you use for swabbing?

God bless

The RCBS 11mm bullet should be throwing at. 446

I sized it to .443" and with a paper patch it is almost a drop in. The weight of the ramrod sets it down to the charge. Then I seat it firmly to compress the charge. I believe at .446 it would be a tad too large. I'm hoping to get a dropped bullet at .444 or .445. but we'll see.

At the Highest point in the Trajectory rainbow, The bullet is 55 feet above the Target.

That Bottle is my Between Shot Swabbing solution, Which is HIGH Content Isopropyl Alcohol, HEET Fuel Treatment in the RED Bottle to be Exact
