What's it worth

Remington 700ml in good condition. I want to know what is a fair offering price.

700ML or 700MLS ?

The 700 ML features a matte black synthetic stock, a carbon steel action and 24" barrel with a satin-blue finish and a 1 in 28" rate of twist. The 700 ML weighs approximately 7 3/4 pounds and is 42.5" in overall length. The instruction manual states that the maximum charge should be held to 120 grains of black powder or Pyrodex in .50 caliber rifles and 90 grains in .45 caliber rifles.

The 700 MLS Magnum model is similar but features a satin finished stainless steel barreled action with a 26" barrel and a fiberglass reinforced synthetic stock. The MLS is 44.5" long and weighs about 7 7/8 pounds. According to the Remington Catalog 2003, the 700 MLS earns its "Magnum" nomenclature by being rated for up to 150 grain charges of either black powder or Pyrodex.

GM thanks. But I think I'm going to pass on this. It is an older one with #11 cap ignition. Not even 209. If and when I get a Rem ML it will be the new style cartridge case ignition.

You wouldn't be disappointed bronko. That fire breathing demon Dad had built from Hankins is a tack driving machine. Little expensive but well worth it if you like quality and a rifle capable of putting 5 rounds within 2 inches of each other at 200 yards. 3 were actually within 1.5 but I aint pappy. Had a couple "get away from me" I guess. Find you a good single shot short action 700 and send it to him. What he builds you can shoot bp or smokeless.

If you go with the new 700UML prepare to spend another $200+ on it to get the ignition system improved. If you want LRMP you might as well do it right and cases are NOT the right way to go about it.

Well I don't have a bunch of money to spend on another rifle so custom is out. So I'm stuck on the fence here as to which way to go. GM, you said cases are not the way to go. Can you please explain why and what ignition system would be the best. Can I go with the LRMP system on an older 700ML with the percussion cap system? Also, what is the difference between the LRMP system and the new Remington Ultimate Muzzleloader and the cases that use the LRMP ?

There is a LRMP setup for the old 700ML and its a little more because it requires more parts. The breach plug is a bit different so the primer sets further away from the powder. The 700ML has no locking lugs to handle the additional pressure. The Rem700UML is basically a single shot Rem700 SA with locking lugs. It will handle the pressure of any cartridge made for it.

The 700UML case system is prone to flame cutting and those cases dont last for that many shots. Use one just once too many times and it cuts. As it cuts the case it also cuts the sealing nose in the plug. The ASG LRMP seal very very well and last far longer than a primed case. All this info has been covered in great detail on the MML forum. ASG sells his conversion for 700ML, 700UML and the new CVA Paramount. It flat out works better than anything else out there. He also sells a 209 conversion for the older 700ML

Thanks GM. Because of all the info you gave me I'm going to pass on this rifle.
