Default Cva buckhorn magnum

Ive got a cva buckhorn magnum that was given to me. Shooting iron sights and i current just gambled with a bore sight 3 inches high at 30 yards. I have tripple seven pellets and 295 grain bullets. Should i be using 2 or 3 pellets when i go to fine tune it in and as well is that bore sight guess gonna be way off. New to the muzzleloader world. If any criticism is given lets try to make it constructive.

At the range take a shot at 25 yards to see where you are on paper, adjust to bulls-eye and then move out to 50 and 100. Not much different procedure from that a cartridge rifle. As far as the pellets, I would go with two rather than three and see what your consistency is. Most here will recommend you go with loose powder for better accuracy (you can fine-tune your load to 5 grain increments) and less cost (pellets are expensive!).

Good luck.

You will not enjoy pulling the trigger on a 300gr bullet and 3 pellets.

Three pellets is just a waste of powder. Two pellets is plenty. As Hubby said, loose powder is much better and less expensive. And GM is also correct. You're shoulder will surely let you know that rifle went off. Not very pleasant even if you're not deterred by recoil. And no dear will know it was hit by a bullet pushed by 100 or 150 gr. (which is actually less than the same amount of loose powder)
Little tip: Keep your eyes open at you local Wal-mart if they sell muzzleloader supplies. They usually put Pyrodex RS on sale after the season. That's when I always buy mine and it last me the year.
