45cal MLs with 350-400gr lead conical and a mild load is a deer whacking son of a gun. It dont beat yah to death but will flatten any deer that ever walked. I would use a 400-460ish grain on anything with hooves and never feel under-gunned.

I totally agree with you. I use to shoot my 465gr conicals out of my 451 White's. I love that bullet and still do. The deer hated them though. Grin However several years ago I started casting the 330gr Gould HP bullet from Lyman for my young grandson as I knew there would be less recoil, plus Doc White highly recommended that bullet. My 8yr or 9yr old grandson at the time shot and dropped his doe at about 45-50 yds with a light load of 50gr of 777-3F with that Gould bullet. Using Pure lead my bullets come out weighing around 346gr. Since that time and several deer later all of my grandsons have harvested deer using loads of 65 or 70gr of 777-3 or Swiss 3F. All with the same results, deer were either DRT or in a short distance. The damage those bullets do inside is devastating. That Gould bullet has now become my favorite bullet for deer,

Yeah Ron and thanks. You got me hooked on these bullets. I've been playing with them for about 2 years + now using different diameters and over powder wads. Its really satisfying to get an animal with one of your own bullets.
An earlier post shows the last group I shot with them. Ed's bullets hoot really good too. But making your own adds to the enjoyment.
