New CVA .45 Paramount Rifle Uses VariFlame Primer Adaptors, New Knight .45 Doesn't
 

The new CVA Paramount .45 has a 1 in 22" twist and uses large rifle primers with the VariFlame ignition system.
So what do you guys think about CVA going with the VariFlame?
Is that a system that most folks want to fiddle with?

Do folks like the CVA system better than the new Knight Ultra-lite .45 with a 1 in 20" twist?
Depending on the ignition system ordered, the Knight offers ignition options that use either full plastic jackets, bare 209's, #11's and musket caps.

I don't think the Paramount is in stock yet, hopefully soon, so we can get some reviews other than CVA reps.

CVA has come a long way, a lot of us still remember getting burnt on a side lock or pistol that had so soft metal in it that it did not last 100 shots. A win or two at Friendship would go a long way to erasing those memories.
I am inclined to believe that is the direction they are going in.

I really much prefer the way most manufactures are using now. The bare shotgun primer. It simple and very easy to use. You can use different primers to achieve the heat pressure you thing you might need. I say and suggest this as a hunter and recreational shooter not as a competitive shooter.

Well i would not compare the Paramount to the Ulite. Vastly different market target. Rifle over 9lbs vs one that is around 6lbs and geared entirely as a light weight hunting rifle. The Paramount will compete against the Mountaineer 45 1-20 and the Knight 500 45 1-18. Price is close to the Mountaineer and has a similar market target....Long range hunting and shooting. A fairly cheap plug upgrade makes the Mountaineer one of the best 209 systems going.

LRMP has yet to prove itself any better with heavy loads of BH209. Ive shot loads like that from a custom Savage 45 with a OEM plug and the 209 handled it just fine. Plus Variflame has been tried in SMLs and pretty much failed to capture any of the LRMP market in those builds. There are far better LRMP modules out there that work exceptionally well. Someone is already working on a upgrade for the Paramount to use those primer modules. ATM we are not sure if its possible without a major bolt overhaul. No Paramounts are available just yet but inspection at the ShotShow looked promising.

I can assure you if Cecils Variflame was all that....there would be loads of SML builds with them. There are tons of them with another module design that cost more. LRMP does have some advantages in a breach plug with the correct geometry and they are cleaner than a 209.

The variflame system is much more difficult to get to seal, I prefer the 209 system.

If you have a bolt action with lugs or a steel frame like an Encore the ASG/Hankins type modules are great performers. By using a strong action you can reduce the length of the flame path with LRMP. They will handle 50Kpsi+ and a 209 wont even handle half that without bulging. Ignition is excellent with that design and no leaks either. You get a fraction of the carbon buildup in the flash channel as well. When you convert a standard length breach plug to LRMP you gain nothing in terms of ignition quality.
