Tipped Bullet Photo Array
 

Every bullet shown here was caught using the same system. The distance between the rifle, and the horse is 25 yard. In each case the powder charge was 50 grain Blackhorn. The horse carries a phone book, water bottles, plywood, and carpet. The bullet is intended to shoot through the carpet, and plywood before hitting the bottles. The plan is the bottles will 'catch' the bullet. The phone book is insurance.

Ron, while they shoot close to the same I have come to believe that there is a difference in the terminal ballistics between the Shock Wave and the SST have you tested the Shock Wave I would like to see a comparison if you have to see if I am right. Lee

Lee it appears that the Shock Waves can be purchased in a bonded (blue tip) version and a regular (yellow tip) version? I thought the bonding was the BIG difference between them and the SST. The copper should not peal off the lead.

The 250 grain Shockwave has a hard yellow plastic tip. The 250 grain SST has a soft plastic tip. Sometimes they perform differently on deer and hogs.

The bonded Shockwave is a different bullet altogether.

Mike, I believe there is some difference in jacket thickness and lead hardness., it would also be interesting to see just how much difference being bonded or a different caliber makes.
