1:20 original Disc
5 Attachment(s)
I have been waiting for some 530 gr BACO bullets to arrived but it was finally nice enough to shoot and I just received some more of Ed’s 465 gr bullets so I decided to give them a try at gong hunting until the 530’s arrive .
I chose an old school .45 original disc . It has been bedded and has fpj primer . Other than that it is original . I had been shooting PR 260’s in it so I had to sight it in . It only has a 9 power scope . I could see the 500 yard gong fine but didn’t have enough elevation to reach that far . I was limited to around 300 yards . I took along pyrodex p and triple 7 with the intention of trying both and working up an accurate load As it turned out the pyrodex p load of 75 gr with veggie wad and ed’s 465 was good enough group that I didn’t do any experimenting this time out This was the 3 shot group I ended up sighting it in for 125 yard zero figuring I could leave it for hunting if it shot good . Then I went to 200 . 2 shots were satisfactory, the third shot I think was my fault . Then it was gong time at 300 First shot was a little high . It hit the t post that my gong hangs from . Ed’s bullet is a definite killer on steel t posts if you ever have a chance to hunt one :) 1 adjustment and it was dead gong every shot . You can see where the bullets hit the gong , the group wasn’t to bad So my conclusion is Ed’s bullet is a killer to 300 on gongs and probably beyond if your scope allows you to reach out further 75 gr pyrodex p 465 gr conical 1:20 twist original Knight Disc Triple 7 primer |
Good job!
No shoot'n around here for awhile. Another 12" to 18" of snow coming so they say. I'm sick of it! |
Nice Sharpsshooter. What was the range for that first tiny three shot group?
I love Ed's big bullets in my Green Mountain Renegade. I call them the "freight trains". Here's about the best they will do from its 1:30 twist barrel with GOEX at 100, 200 and 300 yards. I've never tried other powders. ![]() ![]() ![]() I was going to make the Spring T-Post hunt this year, but my shoulder is not up to shooting the big bullets necessary for those suckers. It's healing from the injury sustained in a fall in December, but slowly. |

Hunting season is a coming :) |
