Twild provided these 45 caliber bullets. They measure 0.451".











The roll of tape on the second jug was removed before the shot. The range was 25 yard. Powder charge was 80 grain Blackhorn. The bullet went through carpet, plywood, completely blew up the first three water jugs, poked holes through the last three, then went through the phone book. The trap failed to capture the bullet. Photo shows the exit on the back of the phone book.

Personally, I thought you were real diplomatic in your description of the shoot with the explanation the bullet had great penetration but showed little expansion - without saying so.

A .45 caliber sized hole through and through a whitetail, especially through the lungs, would leave a viable trail. I would like to see some expansion though. That would probably be a great large bull elk or moose bullet. Little on the tough side for whitetail it seems from that test.

i use that same bullet style but in a 44 mag rifle & boy does it do a number on deer . leaves a blood trail that stevie wonder could follow. but they don't run far after the shot

How do you use the "same" .451 bullet in a 44mag?

Just like the 44/45 300gr XTPs are different, its likely this one is also. This one is designed for 454 Casull which is faster than a 44Mag. Other than the color im sure their quite a few differences. Even the 45cal XTP MAGs are quite different in construction. The 240gr for example has a far thicker jacket than the 300gr MAG.

Im actually really surprised that this bullet appears to have failed to expand or at least very little. That load should be close to 1600fps or probably more.
