My dream gun
 

This may be a little premature but I am working on getting my dream gun built. I won't know til Monday on the barrel but I have high hopes . If the barrel is a go then it's up to Bestill to pull this all together . This will be a long range conical gun built specifically for shooting 400+ gr lead conical with 70 to 90 gr powder
The gun platform is a Remington 700 ml
The stock is the Boyd's varmint stock I posted in another thread
The barrel I really want is a Krieger MUT profile
.408/.416 with a 1:16 twist .
Timney target trigger
AsG hunter nose bolt
Bestill plug and bushing
Scope is a Vortex 6 x 24
I am sure when he gets done it will be a Tack driver
My goal is an extremely accurate 500 yard conical gun
If the Krieger barrel falls through then my second choice is a Douglas .

Wow, what's a project like this cost? I imagine its a pretty penny.

Ive wanted a 40cal for awhile now. Mostly for shooting 400ish grain conicals too. There are many good choices ranging from 408Cheytac, 405Win to 416Rem depending on the bore dimensions you are after.

Not a whole lot of 416 choices though in 1-16. Its a lot easier to find one in 408.

They offer a 416 in 1-16? Their site listed a 1-14 and a 1-12?

I really like Krieger barrels .its exactly what I wanted except it's a .408 / .416 and I wanted .409/.416 but that's close enough . I just have to get a sizer for my bullets as they are .410

You want the actual price or the price my wife thinks it cost ?:):)

I will likely go with 408Cheytac or 405Win (.411)barrel if/when i can afford it. I would prefer to be able to do conicals and sabotless 40s but that gets more complicated. 300gr sabotless at 2200ish fps would probably need a 1-14 and thats kind fast even for a 400gr conical.

We both know 1-16 works fine for the 400gr conical.

Yep and I am building this as a conical shooter specifically for the 400 to 410 gr bullet . Might seem dumb to build a gun specifically for one bullet but that's what I really want because I know that 400 gr with a good 1:16 ought to be deadly accurate. Should be a good target gun I hope . If I ever go to Friendship this would be the one I would want to take if it does what I hope it does .
