CVA Apex
Had the Apex out wednesday and it was shooting as usual. It needed to be set back to zero, but the groups were almost boring. No matter what I stuffed down the muzzle, it shot it nicely. Love this gun.

Its a shame they have more or less quit making them. After this last batch that came in im not sure if any more will be available according to what ive read. Its pretty hard to find a custom barrel maker that is willing to make barrels for them too.
I would love to have one in 405 Winchester. |
Apex is a darn good rifle. One downside is the 8lb unscoped weight.
|
MountainDevil54, do some pushups. 8 pounds is lightweight.
|
Along with the .50 cal ML, I bought the .243 win. Both barrels shoot spot on. Very satisfied with it.
|
The Apex is a really nice and accurate rifle.
|
Congrats on the fine shooting CVA... I hate they decided to discontinue the Apex as well!
|
The Scout V2 is nice for the price and some calibers include a removable muzzle brake. Apex has a longer barrel though and a larger OD at the breach. 1.1" is big for a break action breach OD.
|
Does anyone know where you can get barrels for the apex

Bergara direct has some great pricing on the ML barrels.

I dont think so. The Optima Elite was a pre 2009 and had a steel frame.
Optima V2 and Scout V2 are sorta similar. Frames look a lot alike and they both use the same stocks. The Scout V2 45/70 makes a dandy fast twist 45cal ML/SML but the barrel is a little short due to the removable muzzle brake. |

CVA says they are different systems and won't fit. I kinda/sorta thought that, confusing since they have the same name, but now I know. Probably saved me some $$$ too...

CVA Hunter 45/70 25" barrel...$250
Scout V2 45/70 23" barrel + brake...$350-380ish Conversion (209 primer) with parts around $200 That is about as cheap as it gets for a new 45cal 1-20 break action. Carlos at Ed's Gunshop in Vass NC might have some Apex frames/barrels left. |
