I saw that episode when Steve killed the bear. It dropped on the spot.

I don't remember him having a backup either. I suppose he could have always stayed off camera.

Most guides do have a rifle. I saw tom miranda bow hunting brown bears and after he shot it with a bow, his guide thought it was a bad shot an unloaded into it. Tom was pissed because it was a perfect double lung shot and the trophy no longer counted for the books because the guide shot it lol

They never showed that. I think what you saw was one of the hunters who went for a black bear. It showed him in the boat at 5:45 with his rifle. I assume that's what it is. It has a wood stock. They show him again in the below video at 19:47 with a dead black bear. That's not his guide and you might have thought so. His guide is obvious when you watch the below video of the episode.

What I really like is how the Powerbelt dropped the grizz on the spot. I think i'll use it for my bear hunt this year and the elk hunt next year. Of course i'm not going to use but half the powder Steve used, but i'm not hunting for a huge grizz either.

edit.....The link is starting the video at the 4:50 minute for me. Scroll it back if you get that too.

Trust me Muleyhunter, his guide had a rifle. Every guide in BC carries one in Brown Bear territory. I don't care if they are guiding the best shot in the country. They aren't going to put their lives in the hands of a strangers shooting abilities. Especially if that stranger is using a muzzleloader. You can bet your last nickle his guide not only had a rifle, but that it was locked and ready to shoot. It would be completely stupid of a guide not to.

In many areas "up north" its a requirement to have a guide/outfitter AND im pretty sure there is a caliber requirement for the guide's rifle. Not necessarily a law but a requirement by the outfitter based on region and game being hunted....They have some pretty strict laws up north about hunting and guides/outfitters.

I've watched him guide on his program.

Here, book a grizz hunt with him. It's only 21k.

I think you are missing the point about BC regulations. Alaska is a whole other ball game.

http://www.frontcounterbc.gov.bc.ca/...r/eligibility/
The following criteria must be met to proceed with an application for a Guide Outfitter Licence:
Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada

Isnt Steve West from/live in Oregon?
