Revisit Blackhorn 209
 

I have the CVA Accura V1(hex head breach plug) when I first got it I had Ron make me a breech plug to shoot the BH-209. I tried it with a Barnes 250gr TEZ using 80, 90, 100 grain charges and could not get a decent group. Would like to give it another try, anyone have any load recommendations ?

Are you compressing your charges? I tried BH-209 and it shot well for me but not good enough to justify the extra cost over the Pyrodex I was using. I didn't mind swabbing between shots.
Just recently I've been playing with Alliant Black MZ and getting pretty good results.

If you mean firmly seating the round on top of the powder then yes.

Swap out that sabot for the Harvester smooth black for 300gr bullets or under. Try 110gr of BH209.

Some of you guys know CVA barrels better than I do (considering I don't, nor will I own one) but I got my best results out of my TC barrel with those Barnes bullets by using Crushed Rib sabots. In all actuality, I seem to get the peak performance with every bullet except one with them. The TC Cheap shot bullet actually shoots pretty dang good using the supplied sabot that came with them. I don't know if CVA runs "tight" like TC's do but if you happen to have a little tighter bore then those Crushed Ribs will really help.

As far as Bronko's statement goes about compressing charges, he didn't mean just seating the bullet tight. I have found in my testing that BH209 really likes it when you lay on the ram rod. Really put the weight to it. And do your best to come up with a method that is repeatable. I "rock" onto mine the same way giving it about 80 pounds of seating pressure. My rods are marked to the depth for each load that the barrel likes. I.E. The 220gr .458 Lehigh Controlled Fracturing bullet likes a Crushed rib sabot on top of 110gr (volume) BH209 for just over an inch at 150 yards 5 shot groups.

As was said before, try the Harvester easy load black smooth sabots, with the tez's, Accura V1 barrels run .501 to .502 bore, from what I have played with. And try to seat the bullet HARD on top of the powder.

In my V2 I use the Barnes 295 gr MZ with the supplied sabot with real good results. I' just started using this bullet last year with the Black MZ powder. Accuracy was really good but the 2 deer and hog taken with this combo didn't seem to like it much.

TMZ, TEZ or MZ Barnes because the sabots are not the same.

I should have mentioned in my original post that I did not used the supplied sabot, I used the MMP-HPH-12 for a tighter fit.

fusion, I'm not sure if you're still looking for suggestions but absolutely try the Harvester Crush Rib. I've shot those 250 TEZ in about every sabot I could get my hands on and every single time, regardless of the gun, the Crush Rib shot best.

I will say, I am in the south though so the humidity may or may not have something to do with it.

The sweet spot from a powder charge was always between 80 and 90 for me.
