CVA makes meat!

Got in the ladder stand this morning about 7:45. This guy came in at 8:30,,, gave me a little bit of a quartering to shot at 45 yards... the wind was wrong all morning so I had to shoot quick. The 250 grain Aerolite powered by two White Hot's caught the front shoulder and exited at the back of the lungs/liver (had to pull a piece of bone out of the exit hole so y'all could see it better). I tried to find my bullet on the ground but never could... looks like it mushroomed perfectly and retained most of it's weight and shape... heck it may still be going,,, Powerbelts are tuff!!

Muley Hunter 10-21-2016 07:16 AM

Good job and the bullet i'm using for deer this year. The same bullet, but in 300gr for elk next year.

Shot looks too high and far back for me. How far did he go?

flint head 10-21-2016 07:23 AM

That's the exit hole... the entrance was tight on the left front shoulder. The cowhorn was quartering to me,,, he made it about 40 yards with a good blood trail.

Muley Hunter 10-21-2016 07:26 AM

Ah ok. Good deal.

cayugad 10-21-2016 07:27 AM

Congratulations on making meat. Nice looking young buck there. Should be real good eating.

falcon 10-21-2016 08:00 AM

Congrats on the buck.

I'll give y'all a good recipe for some tender meat like this...

South Carolina Hash:

You can use a roast, backstraps, or stew meat for this...

Put the meat in a pot, cover with water, and boil until fall apart tender--

Take the deer meat out and shred it with your fingers--

Pour the old water out, put the shredded meat back in the pot and just cover with clean water--

Add one large jar of Pace Picante sauce, salt and pepper to taste, and cook until most of the liquid is gone--

Put the Hash on a hamburger bun with some Dukes Mayo,,, add some chips and a cold beer... :guiness:

That's some good eat'n!

Muley Hunter 10-21-2016 08:11 AM

No potatoes?

flint head 10-21-2016 08:15 AM

Some fried taters yes... just don't put any in the Hash!

Semisane 10-21-2016 08:18 AM

Good deer flint head. Congratulations.

By the way, that's not hash - it's Sloppy Joes. :D Try adding some Worcestershire sauce with the picante sauce.

flint head 10-21-2016 08:23 AM

It's funny Semi... in the low part of the state, they make the hash really fine and pour it over rice. In the upstate it's made like I described and put on a sandwich... go figure??

Muley Hunter 10-21-2016 08:25 AM

Around here hash is meat and spuds mixed together.

MountainDevil54 10-21-2016 09:29 AM

well that figures! damn photobucket is down at my end.

You should be flogged. Thats borderline blasphemy to use Pace and Dukes. :D

Everyone knows you use Jacks Special Salsa and Hellmans!!!!

WV Hunter 10-21-2016 09:39 AM

Congrats! I shot a cow spike that looked just like that one many moons ago. :)

Well, Dukes is "ok" but if you haven't tried Jack's then you don't know Jack. Pace is about the bottom of the barrel when it comes to salsa. :p

Compare this list to Pace. That is not even including more than twice the amount of salt in Pace. 115mg vs 250mg per 2tbs.

Tomato, Onion, Cilantro, Vinegar, Green Bell Pepper, Jalapeņo Pepper, Salt, Sugar, Spices, Lime Juice, Celery, Citric Acid.

Good shooting! He'll definitely be good eating.
