Little Girl 1 deer 0

The day finally arrived. My youngest girl was old enough to start hunting last year but it didn't work out for me to take her. This year I told her that she would go first before anybody else. So she was extremely excited to finally get to hunt instead of watching her brothers and sister hunt. Today was opening day.
Her brother kept telling her she wasn't going to get one. :hit:

To make a long story short he was wrong.:D
The real problem was finding it. Boy that was a nightmare. We looked for an hour and 20 minutes and almost gave up. Then I finally stumbled upon it. It was really rather hot out so I was worried about not finding it for so long. The shot was absolutely a great shot. I saw it kick up its back legs and take off so I knew it was a good hit but it went into the weeds around the old farmstead. The weeds were about 15 feet tall and thick.

heres what it looked like

This was not easy walking for an old man like me.

But we prevailed and found her. :D

The drag was also horribly tough even though her brother helped. I think I need to take a bigger kid.:D

This is her and her doe

yes she is a girl . You just cant see her hair :D here is a pic of my little punkin.

It was a Knight Littlehorn, 60 gr 777 and a 260 gr PT Gold at 87 yards.

The older girl is up next as it's a ladies first year this year.

Awesome! Congratulations to the little lady. I'll bet she had a long face near the end of that search, followed by jumping up and down.

Yep i was ready to give up and i asked her if she wanted to keep looking . she saidv yes , so off i go into the ragweed again and this time i walked right to her . I hollored that i found her and boy was shev all excited and came running. When everybody at home asked her who found it . She told them daddy , so it worked out that i was the hero :)

Yes indeed, you are a hero.

Just taking her out qualifies you as a hero! That was a good shot. What was the bullet/charge she used? Congratulations on a job well done to both her and you.

Congrats, that's good shot shot-placement for a first kill. My own daughter started asking and guess we will start practicing for next years winter...

Great shot and great doe.

Wow I am surprised it ran off far. The shot placement looks right where I would have put it. Did she get a pass through with that load? I can't believe the jungle of weeds you hunt in. Man that would be tough going. Congratulations young lady you did really good!

it ran about 30 yards max but it ran into ragweed that was thick and almost impenetrable. The shot was a complete pass thru. I normally don't hunt weeded areas like that but the open prairie I figured would be to far of a shot for her limited experience. I went to an old farm where I thought we had a chance to get close. I wanted to get her under a 100 yards . Deer always bed in the weeds around there. I just didn't think about how hard it might be to find one in that mess. But it worked out. The bullet on the other hand after seeing Ron's test at low velocity has me wondering. Oh well she is the only one shooting a reduced load. I started all the kids off with 60 gr so they didn't get recoil conscience. Then the next year they went to a regular 100 gr load. None of them had a problem getting a deer with 60 gr .But none used a pt gold. Oh well the deer tasted good . I had some for lunch. That's what counts.

Shaprsshooter, what did the entrance and exit holes look like, and the internal damage?

If I were using a light load at close distances I would go with a Hornady .452 250 GR HP XTP or the .452 250 grain Speer Deep Curl. Those are bullets I would not use for full bore loads, but in this case they would be perfect.

Congrats!

Exit looked like there had been some expansion . Lungs were destroyed and liver had damage . It looked like the bullet did its job
