White Super Safari and Ed's bullets

The storm that blew in so quickly also blew out quickly, leaving it wet and humid but sunshine. I decided to give the Super safari a go.
Same load, triple 7 powder, #11 cap,.060 veggie wad and Ed's 465 gr bullet. No swabbing between the 3 shots.

75 yard results. Not as good as the Disc but good enough to move back and see what would happen.

I decided that the maximum range if I decided to use this setup for elk, would be 200 yards..I figure I only get 1 shot so I wanted to see what would happen with that 1 shot.

here is my elk :s2:

off I go to 200
take the shot then try to see if I could see where it hit through the scope. Couldn't see a hole.
I drove up to the target and looked. here is what I saw

It might look ok but I was shooting for the heart. :bash:

the load has good ballistics though as far as retained energy. here is 200 yard info

and I doubt I could hit the side of a barn at 500 yards but if I could it would be with almost 800 fpe left :s2:

I walked right up to it close enough to touch it and it was just standing there . Never moved :):)

that is good shooting for a 1x at 200 yards. That should get the job done. How much of a hold over did you use?

Since this is a rifle tag i can use magnification so the scope is a 4x16 monarch . The drop is 19 inches . I used the mildot reticle rather than holdover

Chet, how hard are Ed's bullets? Reason I ask, with that shot, if the bullets are a little on the softer side of the scale, an Elk would have been pretty much anchored there. Top of the heart would have probably sustained significant trauma and the lung would have been jello.

Ed will have to answer that . It feels soft though . My guess would be only 5 or 6 but i do not really know . 8 at the very most
But like i said i am only guessing

I make my .45's for my colt right at 8 which is a little on the stiff side. Enough to reduce leading but still soft enough to expand a good bit at pistol velocities on hogs. If those are between 5-8 then if you hit an Elk in that target area, you could pretty much bet your bottom dollar it wouldn't go much of anywhere.

Ed' bullet are just right; both Chet, and Goldilocks will be happy.

Thanks for posting that link. That's some impressive expansion. I had forgot that you had tested this bullet. Looks like it works the way it should.
