Muzzy with 1x

We aren't allowed magnification in my state. For muzzleloader season we have to have open sights or single power scope. I am hoping to draw a refuge tag this year ,so I decided to get a muzzy ready just in case. Some areas of the refuge are pretty open so I figured a single power scope would be better than my GPR and a peep sight. I am tired of moving scopes around and having to re-sight guns in so I decided to put the single power scope on a gun that I don't plan on using for anything else. That way it can stay on there. I hadn't shot the 50 cal Elite in a few years so it seemed like a good candidate. The scope is a Vortek 1X . I mounted it and headed out to tune it in with the 260 gr Scorpion pt gold and I started with 90 gr Blackhorn and federal primer.

gun also has the Lehigh bare primer conversion.

After getting it on target I shot for groups at 75 yards. It is amazing ,after shooting 9x,14x,and 20x scopes all year , how little the target is with a 1x . Even at 75 yards the crosshairs covered the bull.
This was the group.. I always pull one it seems. But for me that is really good as my eyes suck now at my age.

since the crosshairs covered everything I decided to switch to a 6 o'clock hold. I made one adjustment then shot using the 6 o'clock hold. That was better. I think 4 more clicks and I am good to go.

this is 100 yards using a 6 o'clock hold.

load ended up at 100 gr blackhorn,260 pt gold.
The Elite sure is one nice gun. I can't believe I never shoot it anymore.

Now I just have to draw that Refuge tag and I will be happy.:barmy:

Chet, four clicks down to hit where you are aiming or you looking to hit a little high for longer range? Either way you look like you are ready!

That'll definitely work.

Just curious, what state are you in?

That is some great shooting! I have a couple of them 1x scope laying around here still when Wisconsin was non- magnification regulated. But they are no where near the quality of that one you have. Although I too noted when I shot 1x that they were much better for me, then open sight shooting. I too went with a 6 o'clock hold on my 1x for the same reason. The cross hairs covered the bulls eye at longer ranges.

That's mighty good shooting Chet. I just hope you remember to use the 6 O'clock hold when your "target" comes into view so you don't shoot over his back.
