Made a Thor sizer
 

Tonight I was really bugged by not being able to shoot Thors in my Traditions hawken woodsman and then the thought hit me.

Its not much of a flare and I could push them inside down in the barrel and they'd be sized perfectly right?

I got an even better idea, and a hacksaw blade, took an old junker barrel from a cva project that didnt pass by quality test and chopped 2" of barrel of, put the .501" thor upside down and with a small hammer and punch, lightly tapped it down that short stubby barrel and tried it in the Traditions.

PERFECTO!!

Now I can give the Thors a try and see how the results are.

Size they have rifling marks, you just spin the bullet until it catches the rifling properly, and shove 'em down.

Tomorrow I plan on trying a section of aluminum I have and bore a .500" hole and possibly use a dingle berry hone to enlarge where its needed so I have a smooth bullet and no rifling to line up.

MD you may want to double check your bit size. To get a .500" bullet you will need a .501" bore. You can't fit a .500" pin into a .500" hole. Sounds dumb but you can't. The hole has to be slightly larger. Believe me I checked many a hole using pin gauges over my career.

Swinglock and Hankins rifle have been making adjustable sizing dies for awhile now but the cost is high.

Lee or Doughty Enterprises will make a standard sizing die to your specs for under $40. To size a Thor without damaging the skirt you just need a smaller punch pin that will fit inside the skirt with some room to spare after sizing.

And when using a rifled-full length sizing die, you need to use a piece of the rifle your shooting to make the die so the rifling matches up full length.

remember now, this traditions has a .499" bore land to land, so its a real b word trying to get that .500" down without sizing it first.

I got another gun coming in so I want to see what that bore size looks like first.

Also going to make a simple size out of a black of aluminum I have later today.

As of now, the bullet beautifully rides on top of the lands with little bumps here and there to keep it in the bore.

It took quite a bit of air pressure to get it back out of my flintlock barrel.
