Savage 10 MLSS-II

I am thinking about buying a muzzleloader. Leaning toward the Omega but the Knight Extreme would also be a good choice. A friend of mine told me about a Savage 10 MLSS-II which uses smokeless powder which requires little cleaning.

Has anyone out there used the Savage 10 MLSS-II ? How would you compare it to the Omega or the Knight Extreme? Is it watertight?

I would be interested in hearing all the pros and cons on this gun. I am only going to buy one muzzleloader in my lifetime and want it to be the best choice.

Thanks!!

DD, I happen to know a little bit about the Savage 10ML-II, but there again I am just a tad biased towards the Savage 10ML-II. To get some unbiased, straight, and honest opinions on the Savage 10ML-II check out theses links to Toby' s, Randy' s, and Doug' s sites. Don' t be hesitent to ask questions, any questions. The guys will be more than happy to answer them all, promptly, completely, and thoroughly. Between these 3 sites, you have more collective data and knowledge than even Savage has. These guys are really pushing the envelope of high performance muzzleloading.

DD ,
cleaning is part of owning guns . The thought of using high powered smokeless in a ML makes me queasy . Imagine how many dipsticks are going to think " Just 10 more grains ..." I can see the trial lawyers circling now . [X(]

Kevin,

Do yoursef a huge favor and heck out the sites listed in the previous post. You may gain some very useful infromation, that way you will know a little in which you speak of. In this case, it is not the thought of using smokeless powders in ML' s, but foot in mouth, that is making you queasy:D[X(]

P.S. " Just 10 more grains" will not do any harm to the gun or shooter. The trial lawyers can circle all they want, but they will starve to death before they get a meal off the Savage 10ML-II:)

A LITTLE biased, did you say? Can' t imagine why. ;)

I' m sure you know where I stand on your very good rifle. You need to get them to convert it back to only black or subs - and true smokeless aint a sub. But, smoke ' em if ya got ' em. :)

UC,

yeah, just a little biased![:-][:-]

I' ll be the first one to admit that the 10ML-II isn' t for everyone. That' s why they still make CVAs, T/Cs, Knights, A&Hs, Whites, etc.;)

lol 1shot, that may be why they are still made (the " other" BP guns) but why would ANYONE want one other than if required by state regulation? (Which in that case its either an Omega or Encore for me. If those arent legal either I would bowhunt during smokepole season or MOVE! :D)

I was shown a target today from a ML10 that fired 3 250gn SSTs with 3.1cc' s of H4227. The first two shots were touching and the third shot was all of .5" away. This was at 100yds and there is no cleanup... [>:]

You tell me!

The Savage cannot be directly compared to anything else-- as it was designed for economical use of efficient, non-corrosive smokeless powder from the start.

It is a sealed action, more sealed than the Knight for example. Its greatest strength is the dramatically lower cost per shot than conventional pellet burners-- and equally as dramatic high performance with low recoil.

The negative is political-- if smokeless is not legal to hunt with where you wish to hunt, it loses its greatest strength.

South Dakota where I hunt has banned the use of smokless powder Muzzle loaders. This is stupid as it a Muzzle loader season and not a BLACK POWDER SEASON. If it loads from the muzzle its a damn muzzle loader. These pea brained idiots have no clue of which end is up. In fact calling them pea brained is an insult to the pea. who never hurt anyone.[:@]
