A baby Thor Bullet - Reduced Recoil
 

Looks like Thor is getting some of the new Barnes in stock and this time they are in sabots. Not 100% sure which sabot they are but plan on getting that info.

The bullets when bought from Thor when available, he said will come with the ballistic tip.

Interestingly enough, they have a 160gr Control Fracturing bullet, a 160gr Non CF bullet, and a larger 180gr Non CF bullet.

Thor said these are for the 1:48 guns, but I plan on trying them in the 1:28 twist rifles as well to see how they do with lighter charges for young shooters that already have an inline.

Caliber? .45 or .50?

The bullet itself is .445" diameter. That to me sounds odd, so I am not sure if its the cheap caliper I am using. My good one is out in the shop.

OAL on the 160gr CF is .727"

Provided sabot appears to be an MMP brand as they have to hand engraved number in the base of the sabot.

They load nice and snug in my CVA Wolf, so the 180's will get the first run to see how they handle in a 1:28 twist barrel.

Could you give me the length of the 180 gr. and the thickness of the petals on the sabot that fits right? Too bad they are not .400.

They used the MMP short black which has a large loaded OD with a .451-.452 bullet. Roughly around .508+

Using the .445 bullet loaded OD is much smaller (obviously) but it still fits the short sabot very well. The bullet may set too deeply in a longer sabot and catch the jag on loading.

One advantage of the loading Spinjag. It's designed to not catch the sabot.

That 180 gr bullet IMO is perfect for deer sized game. It should perform well. It seems that my rifles prefer the heavier bullets but I can't wait to see the results out of the 1:28 barrel.

Copper Only Projectiles aka General Bullet has been making 185gr and 160gr .451s for some time now. Pretty cheap too, around 45 cents a bullet or less at MidwayUSA.

I think Barnes even sells a 185gr and 160gr .451 for 45ACP/GAP.

No need to wait for some special run from Thor if you want to try some.

180gr is .447" diameter and with sabot they are in the .504-.508 diameter range.

Yep, sure sounds like a MMP Short black sabot.

Assemble your own with the cheap COP bullet and the MMP sabot. Ive shot a bunch of those sabots with the Barnes 45LC 225gr XPB in the NULA. They handle high pressures very well.

The stamp on the bottom of the bullet shows the maker. General Projectile Copper Only Bullets.

They stamp them "C with a circle" for "Copper Only".

They should work quite well in a 1-38 twist. It will be necessary to load the down in a 1-28 twist and to use full power hunting loads in a 1-48 twist, according to the math as I worked it out.
