Tk 2000
I am at heart a die hard spring turkey hunter. In my mind it's like the Super Bowl of hunting. I recently acquired a new unfired TK 2000 and I want to use it this spring. So far the only loads I have used is 100 gr Pyrodex RS and the equivalent by volume of shot #4. I thought about using a 3.5" wad cup and uping the payload. Currently it patterns decent but nothing special. Anyone turkey hunt with the TK 2000 and what are your thoughts and loads you have used?

Hunting turkey with a ML shotgun sure seems like a pretty cool objective. I can't ever recall shooting more than one shot anyway with either a 12 or a 20 gauge so.....
I'm going to be watching this thread closely. Maybe see if I can find a smooth bore barrel for one of my sidelocks. |
I ordered some #4 hevi-shot which at $76 for a 2lb bag is rather expensive and I have also ordered multi-metal 3.5 wad cups. I will try a load of HS 2.25 oz #4 and 100 gr pyrodex rs with CCI 209 mag primers once I get all of the supplies. Later I will try out some other tungsten alloys. I also wonder if anyone has tried the ITX .50 cal tungsten alloy with the allot coating. Will post results once the orders arrive and I get time to test.

:happy0001: I am too big a baby to shoot 100 grains. I load 80 grains of 777, a 3.5 inch wad and fill it with a mix of #5 shot. With that load I have shot only one turkey. And it was a easy shot as I called him into decoys at 25 yards and then took his head. But I have rolled soup cans with that same load at 40 yards. My TK2000 kicks me like a mule. But it is a fun gun to shoot. Just not a lot of shooting per day.
I am very pleased with the pattern. The wads are very solid and not split deep. And I limit my shots to 35 yards. I am thinking of mounting a scope on mine so I can really head shoot. But the one I did shoot was planted. Nothing but wing flutter after the shot. |
