Is that the gun, or the box it comes in?

It's a air bow

Yep, that is interesting for sure. Never seen or heard of that.
Still not legal in most states, my guess is it will be in time.... in PA by about 2050 :D

Technically its a Muzzleloader :D :D :D

chaded 01-08-2016 04:42 AM

I can only hope they don't allow those things in our archery season. We already allow crossguns.

WV Hunter 01-08-2016 05:20 AM

Haha, I posted before without even looking to see if PA was legal and IT IS! Kinda surprised there, they are usually slow to allow anything.

More interesting....you can't use a scope on a ML in Washington state, but you can use this thing. ???

Chaded, I bet it won't be long. It ain't much different than a crossbow, just a different method of delivery. This is truly a crossGUN

Good old technology ... always coming up with new and better ways to kill something.

That is an interesting idea. I would guess other then a snap sound of expelled air the thing would be whisper quiet. It could have some real advantages with special circumstances where stealth is required.

On the Bowsite forums that I like to read, by far most folks hope its never allowed in our archery seasons. Most thought it would be a poachers dream tool since it was fairly quiet and could be tucked away in a truck pretty easily. It would be fun shooting rays down at the coast if you could hook a reel up to it.

Oldtimr 01-08-2016 11:59 AM

That thing is not legal in PA! It is not a bow,it is an air rifle that shoots arrows, air rifles are not legal to hunt with in PA. If you got that info from the map you misread the map.

Yea, like in poaching! The company is pushing people to contact their Legislators asking to allow them during archery season, which I think is absolute BS just because the projectile happens to be a broadhead. This gizmo should in no way be considered a bow of any sort and the only time it should be allowed would be in an any weapon season. That would stifle the sale of them quickly for use in big game hunting.

You are right, I did misread the map. Didn't realize that if you click the species it changed. I figured PA wouldn't allow something like that for deer hunting. Ironically, its legal in VA (where I live) and is pending in Washington state and New York.

Oldtimr 01-08-2016 12:24 PM

I don't see that being legalized any time soon in PA.

While I am most definitely a strong advocate for crossbows to be used during archery for a multitude of reasons, this thing is far and away NOT similar in any way whatsoever to archery other than the projectile it fires. Crossbows, while yes they are easy to fire, are a pain in the rear, even more so than a regular bow sometimes, to carry through heavy brush and such. They are also way more difficult to load for a followup shot and to reset in a tree stand than a bow. They also allow those with physical problems to enjoy time in the woods during the more favorable weather conditions of Archery season whereas in the states that only allow x-bow during rifle those physical conditions could very well keep them away from deer hunting because of the cold and snowy months.

This thing, like most other things that Jim Shockey supports, is just too far. It is simply an air gun that fires arrows. Plain and simple. I've seen other designs for air powered arrow launchers and this one is by far interesting and very functional but it is nothing new really. Nor should it in any way be allowed for archery season for the simple reason that is has absolutely NOTHING to do with archery. Limbs and string make up the essence of archery. Not the projectile it fires. Allowing this thing in archery would be the same as allowing someone to use a sling shot during rifle only just because you used a bullet for the projectile. That certainly doesn't make the sling shot a gun does it?

Next year crossbows will be legal in our archery season. Not sure about an "air bow" though. They would be legal in our alternative methods season which includes air rifles IF its atleast 40 caliber. :D

Oldtimr 01-09-2016 02:44 PM

Are you sure, is the arrow 40 caliber and does the law refer to a bullet or an arrow?

Gm54-120 01-10-2016 06:17 AM

Our regs refer to the bore not the projectile. Here a 40cal air gun is legal in 2 seasons, rifle and alternative. Next year crossbows become legal during archery.

The nock on these functions kinda like a sabot but im assuming they don't release from the arrow. Im also assuming they are probably close to bore size.

Oldtimr 01-10-2016 11:02 AM

I suspect that things that looks like a nock is hollow like the back side of a pellet.
