I quit using my WD-40 Specialist and started using Safariland Breakfree Collector. I don;t keep my guns outdoors and the Breakfree Colector needs no checking for five years in my gun safe, which has three humidity charcoal canisters that I bake in the oven every-other-month.
The only time my basement creeps into the +60 humidity number, is the three months of summer.
That Wd-40 Specialist comes out of that spray can in a thrust so strong, it knocks the cotton patch out of my hand.
So I banned it, for I never adopted the practice of shooting sprays down the bore of my rifles, then using a dry patch to evenly distribute it's contents. I'd rather spray the liquid on a patch first, then apply the bore brush to it.

Moisture travels from hot to cold. A long time ago I worked at a weld wire manufacturer and once the coating was applied to the wire baked we would keep them in a hot room until packaged. Moisture travels from hot to cold. I've used that same idea for my gun safes and installed a ceramic light base and keep a 25 - 40 watt light bulb in them to keep moisture out. Never ever had a rust problem

I can't say that I have ever had a problem with moisture in my gun safes. I keep the humidity high in my house because I have several guitars and mandolins. As far as my protectant I have always used 3-N-1 oil on all metal parts except I use granite on the actions of my smokeless firearms. I also use Johnson's furniture paste wax on wood gunstocks. I have used CLP and a few other brands and don't care for the use of CLP in the actions of guns as it will cause the actions to gum up in my experience.

Ballistol won't gum-up my actions (centerfire/rimfire/MLs), plus I use Ballistol on the entire exterior of all my rifles.... metal, wood, plastic, rubber pad.....etc. So when I press the Ballistol nozzle, I do not have to be careful where it lands on my gun. I can even apply it inside the bore.

Ive started using Frog Lube on all internals.
WD40 Specialist on exterior. Mainly because its a bit cheaper than Frog Lube.
Otherwise I would use Frog Lube on everything.
These two products are leap years ahead of anything I have ever used.

For those of you that have not tried Montana X-Treme Bore Conditioner or Slip 2000 Bore Oil I think you might be in for a real surprise.
http://www.montanaxtreme.com/product...oreConditioner
http://www.slip2000.com/slip2000_lub...ory=lubricants
Either of these two products will provide the protection and shooting qualities that you might be after and they are both synthetic.

i have a big bunch of guns, mostly centerfire rifles. Worked overseas for many years: One time my guns were not touched for over two years. None have ever shown one speck of rust.
My Winchester collection is protected by carnuba wax on the exterior metal and Militec 1 in the bores. The other guns are protected by Militec 1 inside and out. i use Goldenrods in the vault and safe.
