BBD..."Big Doe Down"
 

Saturday was the opening day of North Carolina's muzzleloader season. It was drizzling rain and pretty foggy. As I unlocked the gate, I noticed a deer standing at the end of an old cart path. A quick look through my binos confirmed that it was in fact a big ole doe and another peek through my range finder told me that she was 223 from us. I was just telling Sabotloader the other day how well my Knight Ultra Lite was grouping at 200 yards. Anyhow, I checked the range again and put the 3rd line under the crosshairs on her shoulder and squeezed the trigger. At the crack of the gun I could hear the 250gr Bloodline slap her. When we got to where she had been standing, there was a lot of lung blood on the ground. I only had to follow the blood trail for 20 yards or so and there laid the first meat of 2015!!! Sabotloader should post a picture for me shortly. I hope that everyone has a blessed and safe hunting season.

One thing Ray didn't mention is he might have one of the most accurate ULites that I have ever shot. All of mine are really accurate but for some reason that one of Ray's just stands out.

223 yards for the first shot on the first hunting opportunity of the year - WOW!

Congrats beautiful shot,nice doe, what part of the state are you hunting ? I will be moving near Wilmington next summer and have no idea where to hunt there.

I live on the east coast of NC in New Bern. It's about a2 hour drive from Wilmington.

You have Holly Shelter gameland just north of Wilmington right around Hampstead off the 17N for one area. Here is an interactive map that will help you out with finding areas that are public lands. Check each one and look into the area as some have a permit required to hunt in them.

Other than that you will either have to find a farmer to allow you on (which is hard around here) or join a hunt club. Best of luck.
