300g Deep Curl--80g BH

This bullet wasn't tested before now, because it is currently unavailable for purchase. It has put several deer into our freezer. What i recall from hunting is the exit through the ribs is about 2" diameter, and deer go down quickly. This morning range was 26 yard. Powder charge was 80g Blackhorn

This bullet flattened the front two jugs. The third jug had an entry and exit hole. The fourth, and fifth jugs were undamaged. The bullet took quite some time to find. It bounced hard off the fourth jug, and ended up 12-15 feet away to the side, and forward. It now weighs 301.3 grain.

That is just mean! No other explanation needed. Just flat out mean!

240 & 300 DC's rock! :D

edmehlig 09-07-2015 12:35 PM

What more could you ask for??? If you want better performance then go with a pure lead conical!! :):)

Triple Se7en 09-07-2015 02:10 PM

Looks like a deceased painted insect or crawfish.

flounder33 09-07-2015 03:05 PM

As much as I like slinging the big chunks of lead that bullet there looks GREAT!

Semisane 09-07-2015 03:29 PM

More Deep Curl porn.

Glad I have an ample amount of them, very impressive

cayugad 09-08-2015 06:26 AM

that always has been one of my favorite bullets. They are accurate, and I normally shoot them with 90 grains of powder and they seem hard hitting.

Triple Se7en 09-08-2015 07:21 AM

MIA for too long now. No sign of their return to area stores anytime soon either. Speer seems to be against volume expansion of this product.

Semisane 09-08-2015 07:24 AM

I believe Speer is at maximum production with government/military contracts.

Triple Se7en 09-08-2015 07:34 AM

Been that way for a while. They aren't buying more space or shifting production, to make more Deep Curls in 300 gr, or the Unicor in 260 and 300 gr. The 240s Deep Curls don't work for me. They are 44-cal and I'm needing 45s.

Curious why the .44/240 DC won't work for you (but in any case they are only marginally more available than the 45/300gr bullets).

But if you must have a .45 cal, Widner's has in stock a 45 cal/230gr bullet (Gold Dot for the .45 auto I think) that should work just fine.

Gm54-120 09-08-2015 11:14 AM

I says this year Michigan requires a 45cal bullet in the ML hunts.

Triple Se7en 09-08-2015 11:21 AM

The new Michigan Firearms Hunting Laws for 2015 have parked a ton of my bullets under the basement steps.

Hubby11

I have an almost entire 100-pk of Speer Gold Dot 230s and 100 Speer Deep Curl 250s. The 250s are so much beefier-looking, but fragment nearly the same as the 230s. Different nose design than the 240s and 300s.

Gm54-120 09-08-2015 11:33 AM

I cant find any such regulation. Years ago it was 44cal minimum but then it was not regulated for awhile too.

Maybe you have a link to the new 2015 regs. I cant seem to find them regarding ML projectile caliber.

Triple Se7en 09-08-2015 11:39 AM

No I do not. Haven't purchase any hunting licenses yet for 2015 and the new booklets usually come with the new tags. There were multi-posts on this new Michigan change somewhere. Now I'm thinking I read about the change over at the castboolits.gunloads ML board. Just don't recall what thread.

Gm54-120 09-08-2015 11:44 AM

Ive read the 2015 hunting digest pamphlet cover to cover and i see no caliber restriction for MLs. Its 35cal for centerfires. http://www.michigan.gov/documents/dn...t_461177_7.pdf

Since you are on the michigan-sportsmans forum, maybe you can ask there. Busta is a member there too and he should know for sure. I know he uses a 45cal H&R and a CVA pistol with 50x40 sabots.

Hunt away, there are NO restrictions on those muzzleloader bullets.

super_hunt54 09-09-2015 09:05 AM

T7, I've searched and searched and cannot find anywhere that they have restricted to .45 caliber and above in Michigan. Me tinks you have been misinformed! Pull the bullets out from under the stairs!

I was misinformed and the thread I read was at castboolits.gunloads board. Yesterday I replied and showed them the Michigan Firearms PDF on 35 caliber limitations I read, a long ways-off from 45 caliber. One guy then replied saying his regulations book was from 1988...... lol..... OMG.

So now I gotz' to crawl back under my basement steps and get that big size 13 shoebox full of 40 and 44 caliber bullets back out again. I'm getting dizzy from going back & forth and back & forth for the past week packing and unpacking bullets.

Wait! I need to unpack and repack plastic sabots now too. This has been a big hassle and no thanks to that castboolits board. :action-smiley-099:

My load for the Omega is all set now. It's 90 gr BH209 and 200 gr 50/40 SST. My Knight was a 300 gr. 44-cal XTP. But I will try-out these 200 gr. 45-cal FTXs at the range, along with the highly rated 44-cal XTPs in 200 grain..... then go from there.
