225 Grain 45 Caliber FTX

Scott mailed this bullet, and requested it be shot through the carpet, plywood, and water jugs. Range was 25 yard. Powder charge was 80g.

The photo shows the set after the shot. The first two jugs are placed incorrectly; they should be switched. Out in the field, i couldn't tell which jug was which, and guessed wrong. Anyway, the first jug was severely damaged. The second jug showed damage, but not so much. The bullet stopped in the third jug. The fourth, and fifth jugs were used for the next test, because they were undamaged. The bullet now weighs 172.2 grain.

It held up a tiny bit better than i expected. Ive only shot them much faster. It appears i may get to go to the range in about a half hour and see if these will shoot sabotless. I may need to size them tighter but i wont know for sure until after the bore is fouled. MidwayUSA has them on sale atm for around $28/100.

Thank you Ron

Very interesting test. What I see is a bullet that penetrates pretty good. We need to remember, a deer's internals would hardly equal four or five bottles. Not to mention the plywood and carpet. So there is a chance that a similar bullet velocity at a deer might not get complete penetration. But I like the extreme mushroom effect of the bullet. And the initial impact on the water containers. Great test as usual. Thanks. I have never shot those bullets only the 300 grain I believe they were.

that held up a lot better than their 165gr 30-06 bullets, thats for darn sure.

Personally and for my length of shooting (150 yards or less), I would still rather have the 240-250 XTPs at 23 cents a bullet, on sale right now at MidWay. The 44cal 300 XTP is only a penny more at 29 cents.

FTX might be the worst bullets I ever used. Yes, even worse then Powerbelts for me.

Well, i dont need to size them tighter. Ignition was flawless and they could have been loaded with 2 fingers. I did get one key hole from the 225gr FTX and 80gr of BH209. All the others shot fantastic.
