50 cal. and lehigh 215

I decided to try the Lehigh 215 in a 50 cal 1:28 twist . I only had blue sabots I robbed from some 200 gr shockwaves.

I didn't experiment with finding the best load. I just dumped in 110 gr blackhorn and shot to see if it would group.

I think the group could actually get much better with a little work on powder adjustment and trigger control.

I find myself getting jerky lately. I think I have been shooting to much or something.

Target speaks for itself

all shots were from 100 yards and my usual rest , :s4: gun was 50 cal. redemption

Shot 1 ?

Is it hole or did the 1st bullet hit differently? Or target backboard?

Not sure , the back board is a pallet, might be because there is nothing behind the paper , it hit between slats in the pallet

Great group regardless..........

SS what is the barrel length on that redemption? I was JUST about to order those .400 185's to shoot out of my .50 TCPH but if those 215's are shooting that well from your 1:28 they might shoot very well from mine, with it being a 26" barrel. I'm thinking that redemption is a 24" correct?

Yes , its a 24" barrel with 23" usable

I/we know the 185's will work for you and we are still really just trying 40x215 bullet in other twist rates.

Lehigh, by mathematical calculations, still only suggests Fast Twist bores. And my thoughts are it should stay that way until we can really say it will work in other rates of twist. Remember we are just a bunch of hunters like you who really wanted a heavier-higher BC 40 cal. bullet for a fast twist 45. The bullet was a compromise between the 40x200 and the 40x230 which never made the market. It is a hunting bullet.

When Lehigh dreamed up this compromise the new nose that they designed has maybe revolutionized the new bullet upping the BC to a number that is possibly far better than our little group of hunters would have thought.

Probably the only reason we are even trying this bullet in slower twists is because I decided to try it in a 1-30 really not expecting anything but a tumbling bullet for lack of stabilization. I called the other to guys involved with our trying this new bullet and suggested they try it also - just to see if it were a fluke that they shot so well and grouped so well from a 1-30. One guy tried in a DISC Elite and they were all over the place. The other guy tried and like I had very good success - even to 300 yards.

I think there are still some un-answered questions and thoughts we would like to pursue.

So if you do purchase a box of the 215's there is a chance that they might not perform for you.

As you look at the image of shot #1 from SShooter's Redemption there may have been some bullet yawing. Yet what more could you ask of a hastily shot 3 shot group?

SHunt these are just my thoughts at the moment.

Wonder how they'd shoot from a 1:26 with a heavy charge?

I could only guess, but i think they would . I could try a 1:24 but i dont have a 1:26 except a 52 cal and no sabot to fit the bullet to the gun . you sure dont want to buy a premium bullet and it not work for you . Then again, experimenting is the fun part:)

LMAO SS I'm buying 2 BARRELS to experiment! The wife is about to give birth to a couple of cows when she see's what I am spending this year on toys! New AR build, Barrels for the TC, 4 or 5 different brands of Premium bullets for testing, 6 cans of BH. Boy am I in trouble! Oh and SS, I got those 245 CF's in today. I'll take the Hawken out in the morning and give them a whirl with some light loading. Start out at maybe 60grn T7p but not go over 75gr for the princess.
