A Flyer Ruined My Day

Doesn't it just tick you off when you have a good shot string going and get a flyer to ruin the group?

Other than that, the new .58 caliber barrel on my Great Plains flintlock is doing pretty well at 300 yards with the 650 grain .577 spitzer (designed by Ed Mehlig) over 150 grains Blackhorn 209.

150 grains of Blackhorn, using a flint ML?....... incredible. :party0007:

Is this an April Fools Day joke? :poke:

Navy arms Hawkin hunter load is 175 grains triple f and 610 grain minnie.

Nice shooting!

Them African dragon flies u have down there can be a bugger to take down but i think if u put it in the boiler room, u may have a chance:barmy:

I hate it when a flyer messes up my 300yd groups! :s3:

Good shootin' Semi :D

I was shooting off hand. Might not have gotten that flyer if I had used the bench.

(I swear by Brian Williams. :s13:)

What sloppy shooting! Only thing I can see wrong with that target is that you missed a decimal point when you wrote down the distance. I believe it was 3.00 yards and not 300. I say that because you can't shoot that good at 30.0 yards.
And another thing, you couldn't make a hole that big in a target with a cannon let alone a flintlock!
I bet you're also saying that you used open sights too huh?

Semisane 04-01-2015 03:45 PM

Shame on you Bronko. But I guess doubters will always be with us.

Yes, I was using open sights. I took the Lyman peep off for this shoot because it would have given me an unfair advantage. The group is a little larger than my usual at that distance. I guess the 30 m.p.h. variable cross wind had more effect than I'd expected. Also, I think my eyes are starting to lose some acuity. I had a small bit of difficulty focusing on that one-inch dot at 300 yards.

OK - uh huh...

The only other guy that I have seen do that is Quigley - when he was Down Under... but I figured the wind out...

It weren't a ML so he did have a slight advantage....

SL... my dad has that exact gun, but in a .45-70 not .45-110. That thing will drive tacks. I saw him outshoot a guy using a Rem 700 .22-250 at 200yds. Sweet rifles!

Dad couldn't compete with Semi of course :)

bronko22000 04-03-2015 04:25 PM

Well with this post that Semi is doing I believe that maybe his head was "down under". But because this is a G rated forum, I won't say exactly where! But let's just say he was suffering from a rectal / cranial inversion.

Sorry Bronko. Your last comment is useless. All input to this thread subsequent to 1 April shall be automatically declared irrelevant.

Hmmmph....well then I may as well not post the 1000 yard target shot by my grandson with his Red Ryder BB gun under my tutelage.

 Brian Williams. A name(reporter)you can trust.
Speaking of Quigley, when I grow up I want to be able to shoot over 1,000 yds. freehand just like him.
